Job Title: 3rd Shift Masker / Production Helper
Job Description
This role supports a busy metal finishing and aviation component repair operation by preparing parts for painting and coatings through precise masking and production assistance. You will apply masking materials, follow detailed instructions and blueprints, and help ensure that critical surfaces are protected so that finished parts meet strict quality standards for aerospace, defense, and other industrial customers.
Responsibilities
Apply masking materials such as tapes, plugs, and protective coatings to metal parts and components to prepare them for painting and finishing processes.
Follow detailed work instructions, job travelers, and blueprint specifications to ensure all required areas are properly masked or left exposed as specified.
Inspect parts before and after masking to verify accuracy, completeness, and conformance to quality and customer requirements.
Handle and position parts safely and efficiently in preparation for paint prep and finishing operations.
Support production activities by organizing work areas, staging parts, and assisting with general production helper tasks as needed.
Use basic math and mechanical skills to interpret measurements, verify dimensions, and ensure proper fit and placement of masking materials.
Maintain a clean and orderly work area, including tools, equipment, and materials used for masking and paint prep.
Communicate clearly with supervisors, painters, and team members to resolve issues, clarify instructions, and meet production schedules.
Adhere to all safety procedures and shop guidelines while working in a metal fabrication and coatings environment.
Participate in training on day shift and then transition to working independently on 3rd shift once training is complete.
Essential Skills
Experience applying masking materials such as tapes, plugs, and protective coatings in a production or similar environment.
Ability to follow detailed work instructions and blueprint specifications accurately.
Strong attention to detail to ensure precise masking of critical surfaces and edges.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Excellent math skills to read measurements and verify dimensions.
Strong mechanical aptitude for handling parts, tools, and production equipment safely and effectively.
Ability to work 3rd shift (11:00 PM - 7:30 AM) after completing training on day shift.
Comfort working in a manufacturing and metal fabrication environment that is not climate controlled.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Prior experience in a manufacturing, aerospace, or industrial coatings environment is preferred.
Experience in paint preparation, masking, or production helper roles is beneficial.
Ability to learn and adapt to standardized processes and quality requirements for aerospace and industrial customers.
Strong communication skills to work effectively with production and paint teams.
Reliability and punctuality to support consistent 3rd shift operations.
Why Work Here?
You will join a well-established operation with a long history in metal finishing and aviation component services, where your work directly contributes to high-quality products used in aerospace, defense, and other critical industries. The company provides structured training, including initial instruction on day shift, to help you build specialized skills in masking and paint preparation. You will work in an environment that values attention to detail, safety, and teamwork, offering the opportunity to grow your experience in manufacturing and coatings while supporting a stable, long-standing business.
Work Environment
The role is based in a metal fabrication and finishing shop that operates in a non-climate-controlled environment, so temperatures will vary with the seasons. You will work around metal parts, production equipment, and coating operations, following safety procedures appropriate for an industrial manufacturing setting. The position is scheduled for 3rd shift (11:00 PM - 7:30 AM), with training provided on 1st shift (Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM) before transitioning to nights.
