Summary The Imaging Service at the Fayetteville VA Medical Center is recruiting a Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist. Responsibilities As Supervisory Diagnostic DRT, the incumbent has full responsibility for technical aspects and patient care functions within the General Radiography section and has direct supervisory responsibility over the staff in this section. This supervisor is also responsible for the indirect oversight of all subordinate leads and supervisors of administrative and clerical personnel within Imaging Service. Duties include, but not limited to; Demonstrates appropriate and proactive interpersonal skills to achieve the goals of the service. Functions as the front-line supervisor for the diagnostic radiologic technologists. Resolves scheduling and back-up coverage problems on off-hour and weekend shifts and is responsible for vacation coverage on these shifts. Participates with Imaging Program Administrator in setting performance standards, goals and objectives of assigned or supervised employees. Approves or disapproves requests for leave from technical staff, taking into consideration staffing levels and appropriate coverage on all shifts. Ensures that all call rosters are equitable and completed in a timely manner. Prepares requests for filling of vacant positions. Participates with the Chief, Imaging Service and the Imaging Program Administrator in the selection of candidates for positions in the department. Assists Imaging Program Administrator with training plans for assigned employees including orientation of new employees. Participates in in-service training to broaden employee skills. Recommends formal training when the need is apparent and officially recommends employees for formal training courses. Assists with staff meetings, reviews policies, rules and regulations, procedures and discusses changes in routines and other related subjects. Keeps employees informed of management goals and objectives Maintains Joint Commission (JC) Standards and HIPPA compliance throughout the department. Responsible for all safety regulations and practices in Radiology/ Imaging Service. Ensures proper documentation of accidents occurring to employees, patients or visitors. Keeps abreast of all equipment available and improvements made due to technological advances to assist management in determining equipment needs. Qualifications Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d). Certification. All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R) and Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT) Education. Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE). Grade Determination GS-10Experience. At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS - 9) directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level.Assignments. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, complexity (difficulty), and range of variety, and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time. DRTs at this grade level may be appointed to one of the following assignments:Specialized Assignments. Specialized areas of radiologic technology include general diagnostic radiologic technology (R), bone densitometry (BD), mammography (M), diagnostic ultrasound (S), computed tomography (CT), [ ] magnetic resonance imaging (MR), [ ] [interventional radiologic technology (IR)], quality management (QM), picture archival communication system (PACS) technologist, MRI safety officer (MRSO), imaging administrator, clinical program director, and clinical instructor. Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist . Functions as a supervisor for a group of DRTs at the GS-9 level and below which may include support staff. Evaluates new products and equipment, making recommendations to supervisor concerning upgrades/new purchases that would improve operations. [The technologist] informs higher level management of anticipated staffing variances and informally recommends promotions, reassignments, or other personnel changes such as retention or release of probationary employees, and recognition of superior performance in the diagnostic radiologic area. [The technologist] directs the development and implementation of services and treatment to patients through the supervision, mentoring, and oversight of assigned clinical staff. Experience must demonstrate practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment.
