Job Title: Accountant I - Tax
Job Description
This role offers an excellent opportunity for a recent accounting graduate or early-career professional to build a strong foundation in corporate tax. The Accountant I - Tax supports sales and property tax compliance activities within a structured, collaborative, and professional environment, contributing to accurate tax reporting and supporting key audit and compliance processes.
Responsibilities
Prepare and assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual sales tax returns in accordance with applicable regulations and deadlines.
Prepare property tax returns and support the full property tax compliance process from data gathering through filing.
Reconcile tax assessments to tax invoices and assist with invoice processing to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Prepare monthly and quarterly tax accruals and ensure they are properly recorded in the general ledger.
Support sales and property tax audits by organizing documentation, responding to data requests, and assisting with audit inquiries.
Prepare monthly 911 tax returns and ensure timely and accurate submission.
Assist the tax department with special projects and ad hoc initiatives as needed, contributing to process improvements and departmental goals.
Maintain organized and up-to-date tax records and supporting documentation to facilitate reporting and audit readiness.
Collaborate with team members and other departments to resolve tax-related questions and ensure accurate financial reporting.
Adhere to month-end close timelines and support related accounting activities as required.
Essential Skills
0-2 years of accounting experience, with exposure to tax, general ledger, or month-end close activities.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
Solid understanding of basic accounting principles and concepts.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel for data analysis, reconciliations, and reporting.
Ability to work with general ledger accounts, journal entries, and month-end processes.
Ability to assist with financial statements, balance sheets, and bank reconciliations.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in preparing tax returns and reconciliations.
Organizational skills to maintain clear and complete tax records and documentation.
Ability to meet deadlines, particularly during month-end close and tax filing periods.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for working with internal stakeholders and supporting audits.

Work Environment
This is a full-time, onsite role working 40 hours per week, typically Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The position is based at a corporate headquarters, where leaders and executives visit frequently, so a professional attitude and demeanor are essential. The tax team consists of approximately ten people with tenures ranging from a few months to over 15 years, creating a diverse and friendly environment with a mix of backgrounds and experience levels. During month-end close, from the 22nd through the end of each month, time off is not available due to critical business deadlines. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
