Job Title: Construction Superintendent
Job Description
This Construction Superintendent role oversees ground-up and renovation projects in the commercial and multifamily new construction sector, including mixed-use and multi-purpose developments. You will manage all on-site construction activities from preconstruction through project completion, ensuring work meets quality standards, adheres to plans and specifications, and finishes on schedule. The position emphasizes hands-on leadership in the field, coordination of multiple trades, and rigorous quality control on multi-story structures.
Responsibilities
Supervise and manage all on-site construction activities for commercial, multifamily, and mixed-use projects from preconstruction through project completion.
Organize, coordinate, and oversee all construction trades to ensure work is completed efficiently, safely, and in accordance with plans, specifications, scopes, and schedules.
Maintain strong quality control and perform regular QA/QC checks throughout all phases of construction.
Read, interpret, and analyze construction plans, specifications, scopes of work, and subcontractor proposals to ensure alignment with project requirements.
Perform takeoffs and jobsite layouts to support accurate execution of construction tasks.
Manage ground-up construction activities, including multi-story construction and post-tension slab work, ensuring structural and safety standards are met.
Oversee site construction logistics, including sequencing of work, site access, deliveries, and coordination among subcontractors and vendors.
Lead and manage subcontractors, ensuring adherence to contract requirements, safety policies, and project timelines.
Monitor project progress and proactively address issues, conflicts, and delays to keep the project on schedule.
Apply strong conflict management and assertive communication skills to resolve on-site disputes and maintain productive working relationships.
Ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety standards, promoting a culture of safety on the job site.
Manage construction for a 3-story bank renovation project, working closely with the general contractor and carpentry teams on a six-day-per-week schedule.
Transition to and oversee a large-scale, ground-up, multi-purpose building project that includes retail space and a multi-story Sr living component.
Collaborate with project stakeholders, including general contractors and trade partners, to support successful project delivery from cradle to grave.
Utilize construction management tools and scheduling software, such as Procore, to plan, track, and report on project activities when applicable.
Essential Skills
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Construction Superintendent.
High school diploma or GED.
Proven experience managing construction projects from cradle to grave.
Strong experience in ground-up construction, including multi-story buildings.
Highly preferred experience in multifamily construction projects.
Experience with commercial construction, including renovation and new build work.
Ability to read and analyze construction plans, specifications, scopes of work, and subcontractor proposals.
Ability to perform takeoffs, jobsite layouts, and QA/QC checks.
OSHA certification.
Valid driver's license in good standing.
Access to and use of a personal vehicle for daily travel to job sites.
Strong conflict management skills and a high level of assertiveness in directing on-site activities.
Experience in construction supervision and construction management on commercial and mixed-use projects.
Knowledge of site construction practices, safety requirements, and general contracting processes.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in multi-family, Sr living, mixed-use, and multi-purpose projects.
Experience with retail construction and commercial project delivery.
Familiarity with post-tension slab construction and multi-story building methods.
Metal building (PEMB) experience is a plus.
Heavy equipment operator certification is preferred.
Experience using Procore or similar construction scheduling and project management software.
Experience working with general contractors and subcontractor management on ground-up and renovation projects.
Demonstrated ability to maintain high safety standards and promote a safe jobsite.
Strong organizational and communication skills to coordinate multiple trades and project phases.
Work Environment
This is a salaried position with a strong field presence, where you will spend approximately 90% of your time on the job site. You will use your own vehicle for daily travel, supported by a monthly car allowance and phone allowance. The office is based in Troy, while current and upcoming projects include a six-day-per-week on-site schedule for a 3-story bank renovation in Ohio, followed by a 12-month, $50 million ground-up multi-purpose building with retail and a multi-story Sr living component in Michigan. Lodging and per diem are provided while working out of town. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $95000.00/hr.
