This Manufacturing Engineer role offers the opportunity to apply project management and technical expertise to drive continuous improvement and support a dynamic production environment. You will lead technology integration, cost reduction initiatives, equipment utilization improvements, and quality enhancements while supporting new product introductions and promoting a safe workplace. The position focuses on optimizing the value stream to increase throughput, improve efficiencies, and create effective layouts that maximize flow and reduce handling.
Responsibilities
Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives on the production floor, focusing on throughput, efficiency, and waste reduction.
Apply lean manufacturing principles, root cause analysis, preventive action planning, and Poka Yoke methods to resolve issues and prevent recurrence.
Support technology integration projects, including new equipment, tools, and processes that enhance production capabilities.
Drive cost improvement initiatives by analyzing processes, identifying opportunities, and implementing sustainable solutions.
Optimize equipment utilization through process improvements, layout changes, and effective use of resources.
Collaborate with production and quality teams to improve product quality and ensure adherence to quality standards and procedures.
Support new product introductions by developing and refining manufacturing processes, documentation, and layouts.
Design and update plant and process layouts using CAD tools to maximize flow, reduce handling, and improve ergonomics.
Troubleshoot manufacturing issues on the production floor, including those related to PLC-controlled equipment, to minimize downtime.
Interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications to develop and improve manufacturing processes.
Apply Six Sigma and other process improvement methodologies to analyze data and drive measurable performance improvements.
Ensure all improvements and process changes maintain or enhance a safe work environment.
Act as a project lead on assigned initiatives, coordinating tasks, timelines, and communication with cross-functional teams.
Collaborate with quality engineering to support the development and maintenance of PPAP, FMEA, APQP, SPC, and control plans.
Provide technical support and guidance to production and quality team members to resolve day-to-day manufacturing challenges.
Essential Skills
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Operations with at least two years of experience, or a minimum of five years of manufacturing or process engineering experience.
Demonstrated manufacturing engineering experience supporting production operations.
Strong project lead or project management experience in a manufacturing environment.
Proficiency in CAD software, with Inventor experience required.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
Experience with lean manufacturing, including hands-on involvement in lean initiatives.
Proficiency in root cause analysis and preventive action planning.
Experience with process improvement and continuous improvement methodologies, including Six Sigma.
Exposure to PLC programming and troubleshooting in a production environment.
Knowledge of quality systems and tools, including PPAP, FMEA, APQP, SPC, and control plans.
Industrial experience with metal fabrication, welding, machining, or heavy equipment manufacturing (preferred but strongly valued).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Desired experience in metal fabrication processes and environments.
Experience working in heavy equipment manufacturing or similar complex assembly operations.
Familiarity with Poka Yoke techniques to prevent errors in manufacturing processes.
Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production and quality, to implement process changes.
Comfort working both on the production floor and in an office or engineering setting.
Interest in contributing to an organization that offers employee ownership and performance-based bonuses.
Work Environment
This role is based in a manufacturing facility where you will split your time between the production floor and office or engineering areas, typically about 50/50, and at times shifting to approximately 60/40 or 70/30 depending on project needs. You will work closely with a small, collaborative team of about 4-5 members, including production and quality personnel. The typical start time is between 6:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., and the workday commonly extends beyond eight hours based on operational requirements and project demands. The environment involves regular interaction with metal fabrication, welding, machining, and heavy equipment manufacturing processes and equipment. Standard attire includes khakis or jeans paired with a polo shirt, suitable for moving between office and shop floor activities.
