PCL Solar Constructors, Inc. is seeking Construction Solar Apprentices to support utility-scale solar projects while completing a U.S. Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship. Apprentices work directly alongside an assigned journeyman, developing trade-specific skills through related instruction and supervised on-the-job learning.
Key Responsibilities (All Apprentices)
Perform solar construction tasks under the direct supervision of an assigned journeyman, following approved work processes and specifications.
Apply jobsite safety requirements, including PPE use, hazard recognition, and site-specific safety plans.
Use hand and power tools safely and correctly as required for solar construction activities.
Complete assigned tasks in alignment with apprenticeship work processes and training progression.
Maintain accountability for tools, materials, and assigned jobsite responsibilities.
Participate in daily job briefings, mentoring discussions, and skills evaluations with the journeyman.
Follow all PCL, client, and regulatory requirements.
Pathway-Specific Duties
Solar Labor Apprentice
Assist journeyman installers with solar racking and module installation.
Stage, organize, and distribute solar components and materials to active work areas.
Support mechanical assembly activities in accordance with layout plans and project drawings.
Verify barricades, access routes, and controlled work zones as directed.
Solar Electrical Apprentice
Assist journeyman electricians with installation of DC and AC solar electrical systems.
Support conduit installation, wire pulling, routing, securing, grounding, and bonding.
Assist with inspections, testing preparation, and code-compliant system installation.
Follow lockout/tagout and electrical safety procedures under supervision.
Solar Equipment Apprentice
Support journeyman equipment operators with equipment preparation, staging, and spotting.
Assist with safe movement, loading, and positioning of materials using heavy equipment.
Conduct basic equipment inspections and maintenance activities as assigned.
Follow traffic control, communication, and equipment safety protocols.
Qualifications
Ability to follow instructions and work under close supervision.
Basic math and communication skills.
Ability to safely use basic hand and power tools.
Willingness to complete required classroom instruction and on-the-job training as part of a Registered Apprenticeship.
Valid driver's license or government-issued ID required.
Physical & Safety Requirements
Ability to perform physical work outdoors in varying conditions.
Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and navigate uneven terrain.
Compliance with PCL drug, alcohol, and safety policies.
Ability to pass site-specific and apprenticeship-required training.
