Description We are looking for an Accounting Clerk to support financial, accounting, and procurement activities for a housing authority in Newberry, South Carolina. This contract-to-permanent opportunity is ideal for a detail-focused individual who can manage day-to-day accounting tasks while helping maintain accurate records, compliance, and efficient financial operations. The role offers the chance to work closely with housing programs and property-related accounting functions in a mission-driven environment.

Responsibilities:

Maintain financial records by processing invoices, entering accounting data, and supporting accounts payable and accounts receivable activities with a high degree of accuracy.

Assist with budget tracking, financial reporting, and routine reconciliations to help ensure compliance with organizational policies and applicable regulatory requirements.

Support procurement-related documentation and administrative finance tasks while helping keep records organized, complete, and audit-ready.

Prepare, review, and summarize financial information for internal use, ensuring reports are clear, accurate, and submitted on time.

Contribute to the administration of housing-related financial activities, including work connected to affordable housing, Section 8, and Housing Choice Voucher programs.

Use accounting and business software such as Microsoft Office, QuickBooks, and Yardi modules to manage transactions, maintain records, and monitor financial data.

Coordinate effectively with internal staff, vendors, and external partners to resolve discrepancies, gather needed documentation, and support daily operations.

Protect confidential financial and personnel information by following established procedures, ethical standards, and internal controls. Requirements - Demonstrated experience in accounting support functions such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoice processing, and data entry.

Working knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, and business planning practices, preferably within a public housing, affordable housing, or property management setting.

Familiarity with housing authority operations, including financial processes related to Housing Choice Voucher or Section 8 programs, is strongly preferred.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience using accounting platforms such as QuickBooks and Yardi accounting modules.

Ability to analyze financial details, interpret data accurately, and present information in a clear and organized manner.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with the interpersonal skills needed to work cooperatively across teams.

High level of discretion, close attention to detail, and commitment to maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.

Ability to complete employment screening requirements, including background review, drug testing, reference checks, and verification of a valid South Carolina driver's license.
