Summary 2 Page Resume Limit DOES APPLY for this position The Laundry Worker will perform technical work in the Pack Room at Building 330, Textile Care Section in Environmental Management Service (EMS). On a regular and recurring basis, performs the following major, rigid duties and responsibilities independently in coordination with technical, professional and affiliated general medical, surgical, Medical Centers (Dayton VA Medical Center, Community Based Outpatient Clinics). Responsibilities Duties Include: Prepares packs for the Operating Room (OR), Genitourinary (GU) Clinic, Cardi-Pulmonary Laboratory, and Outpatient Clinics. Maintains adequate inventory of surgical packs for emergency use by the local community (disasters) and Medical Center. Maintains a monthly inventory of all linens used for surgical procedures such as pillow covers, surgical drapes, sheets, towels, scrub-tops, pants, and jackets. Receives requests directly from Surgery or other designees on a daily basis regarding the @types of packs and quantities required. Special care is used to fold, assemble and inspect all surgery items using a lighted table to make up the wide variety of packs. Independently inspects and identifies needed pieces for repairs, replacement, and/or worn surgical items by using the thermoplate machines for patching. Differentiates and marks all packs in a prescribed manner to identify and send to Supply Processing Service for proper sterilization. Insures all other surgical pieces are delivered directly to surgery. Provides support and coverage in all Textiles areas: Linen/Laundry and Uniforms. Work Schedule: Full-Time, Tuesday - Saturday. Position Description Title/PD#: Laundry Worker/PD025270 Physical Requirements: Incumbent will be required to stand almost continuously while producing packs. When not standing, incumbent will be walking back and forth, moving surgical linen through the various stages of processing. Incumbent will load and move large, heavy carts of OR linen, which may exceed 300 pounds. Duties require deft, flexible hand, arm and finger movements, ensuring dexterity and speed are adequate to meet daily/weekly production standards. Considerable stooping, bending, and lifting of linen and bags that may occasionally go over 50 pounds may be required. Environment of the work area must be kept clean and free of contaminants. Temperature and humidity are somewhat controlled to provide a pleasant work area. Since the linen used is clean, there are normally none of the potentially threatening hazards present in handling soiled linen. Incumbent must be conscious of the need to maintain components and finish packs to the highest aseptic level possible. When performing in another area of the Textile Care Section, incumbent will be exposed to drafts from open doors, moist and warm conditions in the linen production area, foul odors, and hazardous objects in the soiled linen handling area. Incumbent will be expected to wear a gown, cap, mask, and gloves when working in the soiled linen area. Employee may be subjected to high noise levels. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
