Job Title: Industrial Electrician
Job Description
The Industrial Electrician assembles, installs, tests, and maintains electrical and electronic wiring, equipment, apparatus, and fixtures in a production environment. This role focuses on diagnosing and repairing malfunctioning systems and components, ensuring safe and reliable operation of production machinery and plant electrical infrastructure. The position requires strong troubleshooting skills, extensive experience with industrial power distribution and motor controls, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, hands-on setting.
Responsibilities
Troubleshoot and repair all aspects of the plant's electrical power distribution systems, including utilization voltages of 480V, 4,160V, and 13.8KV.
Diagnose and repair AC induction motors of all @types, including single-phase and three-phase motors, to minimize production downtime.
Use PLC ladder logic to troubleshoot manufacturing equipment and assist with interlock testing and control system diagnostics.
Develop a working knowledge of various PLC manufacturers and control systems to support advanced troubleshooting activities.
Utilize electrical test equipment such as volt-ohm meters (VOM), insulation resistance testers, micro-ohmmeters, Motor Circuit Analyzers (MCE), ohmmeters, and voltmeters to test systems and verify repairs.
Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and machine drawings to locate faults and understand how electrical systems operate within each machine.
Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, motors, and other components in accordance with schematics and codes.
Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and safety standards.
Advise leadership on whether continued operation of specific equipment could be hazardous and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in wiring, equipment, and fixtures to ensure compatibility, proper operation, and overall system safety.
Repair or replace wiring, equipment, and fixtures using appropriate hand tools and power tools, ensuring high-quality workmanship.
Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs, including work at heights as required.
Place conduit (pipes or tubing) inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas and pull insulated wires or cables through conduit to complete circuits.
Maintain a professional working relationship with multidisciplinary maintenance teams and effectively collaborate to resolve complex equipment issues.
Follow plant safety procedures and maintain strong safety awareness in all activities, including proper use of personal protective equipment.
Interact professionally with on-site customer personnel as needed to understand issues, coordinate work, and communicate status of repairs.
Perform work while wearing required personal protective equipment, including rain gear, chemical protective clothing, supplied-air and air-purifying respirators, safety harnesses, sandblast hoods, fire-resistant coveralls, hard hats, ear plugs, and safety glasses.
Work in various physical positions, including stooping, standing, bending, sitting, kneeling, squatting, climbing stairs, and balancing for extended periods, as needed to access equipment.
Support a rotating shift schedule when needed and be willing to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays based on operational requirements.
Perform additional tasks and duties as assigned by supervision to support maintenance and production goals.
Essential Skills
At least 5 years of experience working as an electrician in an industrial or production environment (not in construction), with a strong focus on repairing electrical breakdowns on production machinery.
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot industrial electrical systems, including power distribution at 480V, 4,160V, and 13.8KV.
Strong experience with AC induction motors, including both single-phase and three-phase motor controls and repairs.
Proficiency in using PLC ladder logic to troubleshoot manufacturing equipment and identify electrical faults.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and machine diagrams to locate issues and understand system operation.
Hands-on experience using electrical test equipment such as VOMs, insulation resistance testers, micro-ohmmeters, Motor Circuit Analyzers (MCE), ohmmeters, and voltmeters.
High school diploma or GED required.
Ability to lift more than 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks throughout the workday.
Ability to walk and stand for approximately 90% of the day in a production or shop environment.
Capability to work in both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned areas, including potentially dirty or dusty shop conditions.
Basic computer skills to support documentation, communication, and equipment interface needs.
Strong self-motivation and ability to work with minimal direct supervision in a highly self-managed role.
Willingness and ability to interact directly with on-site customer personnel in a professional and service-oriented manner.
Commitment to following all safety procedures and consistently using required personal protective equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working in a high-volume production facility, responding quickly to electrical breakdowns on manufacturing equipment.
Experience in industrial troubleshooting, including systematic fault-finding and root cause analysis on complex machinery.
Familiarity with multiple PLC platforms and control systems to support advanced troubleshooting and interlock testing.
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary maintenance team, sharing knowledge and supporting team goals.
Comfort working at heights from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs while installing or servicing electrical systems.
Strong communication skills to clearly explain issues, repair plans, and safety concerns to supervisors and customer contacts.
Adaptability to rotating shift schedules and occasional work on nights, weekends, and holidays when required by operations.

Work Environment
This position follows a typical schedule of 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with the flexibility to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays as operational needs arise. The role is primarily based in a production and shop environment where you will spend about 90% of the day walking or standing and frequently working around active machinery. Some areas of the facility are not air-conditioned, and parts of the shop can be dirty, so you should be comfortable working in warm, dusty, or greasy conditions and getting your hands dirty. You will regularly work from ladders, scaffolds, and at heights to access equipment, and you must use a full range of motion, including stooping, bending, kneeling, squatting, and climbing stairs. The position requires consistent use of personal protective equipment, which may include rain gear, chemical protective clothing, supplied-air and air-purifying respirators, safety harnesses, sandblast hoods, fire-resistant coveralls, hard hats, ear plugs, and safety glasses, in line with site safety requirements.E

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
