What You Will Do
The Manufacturing Manager 1 position at the Waste Characterization, Reduction, and Repackaging Facility (WCRRF) is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Glovebox downsizing team. Glovebox downsizing operations consist of receipt and shipment of waste containers, moving containers and gloveboxes using forklifts and lifting tables, performing manual downsizing of gloveboxes, and packaging glovebox pieces into appropriate waste containers. The selected candidate will also be responsible for personnel management of downsizing team members, mentoring, and training. This role is critical in ensuring that downsizing operations at WCRRF are conducted safely and efficiently.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Leadership: Demonstrated record of managing personnel performance, coordinating work activities, problem solving, conflict resolution, mentoring and training personnel, and supervising high-hazard work.
Regulations and Requirements: Demonstrated expertise in ensuring compliance with LANL policies and procedures with regards to waste processing and operations.
Professional Level Experience: Advanced knowledge of Type A and B shipping containers, waste processing, safety basis, and conduct of operations principles.
LANL Systems : Experience using waste and nuclear materials management databases such as the Waste Characterization and Tracking System (WCATS), LAMCAS, and LANMAS.
Planning and Organization: Experience establishing work scope, operational schedules, adhering to budget parameters, and coordinating work schedule availability with multiple groups.
Problem Solving: Demonstrated experience in effective decision-making, creative problem-solving, and developing solutions for complex issues while maintaining compliance with policies and procedures.
Communication: Ability to interact effectively with all levels of internal personnel and customers. Excellent oral and written communication skills to include drafting new processes and procedures and communicating operational schedules.
Teamwork : Experience teaming with multiple organizations to accomplish objectives and demonstrated ability to elicit effective teamwork, including mentoring and motivating team members and peers.
Training/Certifications : HAZWOPER and RCRA certification; Forklift and crane operator.
Education/Experience : Position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 1 year of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
DOE Order 426.2A : Requires a High School Diploma and 3 years of Nuclear Experience. Full-time related academic training (e.g., degree programs, trade schools, and vocational programs) may be substituted on a one-for-one basis for up to two years of nuclear experience.
Desired Qualifications:
Training/Certification: Mechanical Material Handling Certification or Mechanical Material Handling Master Certification is highly desired, as well as Hazardous Materials Packaging and Transportation Certification.
Safety and Security: Knowledgeable of Integrated Work Management (IWM) and Integrated Safety and Security Management (ISSM) procedures.
Work Environment:
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
