Job Summary and Qualifications
The Trauma Program Supervisor shares 24-hour responsibility for managing the trauma program with the Trauma Medical Director. The Supervisor, in collaboration with other team members, is responsible for assuring all American College of Surgeons standards and requirements for verification are met. The Supervisor is responsible for operational function, program assessment, planning, organization, implementation, budgeting, performance improvement, education, and marketing. The Supervisor has the responsibility and oversight of data collection, data entry and data validation within the trauma registry program. The Supervisor will serve as a role model in the use of the trauma nursing process and will develop, implement and evaluate new approaches to trauma care. The Supervisor will provide oversight of the trauma program in conjunction with department, disciplines, mid-level providers, physicians and surgeons.
What you will do in this role:
Establish goals and objectives for the trauma program and develop strategies to support goals and objectives.
Observe and evaluate performance of trauma team and provide feedback to support growth of the trauma program.
Serve as trauma liaison for ancillary services, EMS, and nurses to promote quality trauma care.
Identify needs and coordinate development and implementation of best-practice practices for the trauma program.
Develop, coordinate, and implement orientation, nursing education, and in-service programs related to care and management of trauma patients in collaboration with the Clinical Educators.
Direct trauma education and prevention activities by developing, implementing, and evaluating programs for targeted populations in the community related to injury prevention as well as other topics of interest identified through community interaction and participation.
Model behaviors that reflect affiliations with professional organizations and trauma related committees.
Maintain clinical competence in trauma care.
Integrate ethical principles into all aspects of practice.
Provide ongoing evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of the trauma program to ensure that the program promotes the delivery of cost-effective high-quality healthcare.
Self-evaluate nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards, relevant statutes and regulations, and maintaining continuing professional nursing competence.
Collaborate with others in the practice of trauma program and trauma system development at the institutional, local, regional, and state levels.
Perform chart abstraction, data entry, and data analysis in a timely manner that supports process improvement activities and growth of the trauma program.
Consider factors related to safety, effectiveness, and cost in planning, delivering, and managing trauma program development activities.
What qualifications you will need:
Bachelor's Degree required (or currently enrolled in BSN program with expected completion within 6 months); Graduate degree in healthcare related field preferred.
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Kentucky or compact state required.
BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required.
Certification in area of specialty required within 1 year of hire.
TNCC and ENPC required within 1 year of hire.
3 years of related clinical experience required.
Experience in program development/management and clinical trauma care required.
