What Will You Do
The Facility Operations Manager position is responsible for managing selected operational activities across LANL's mission-critical data center and supporting infrastructure portfolio. This individual reports to the IF Facility Operations Director and is part of a triad of leaders managing day-to-day activities. The Facility Operations Manager manages all aspects of facility and infrastructure operations, including personnel, and provides the operational support and oversight necessary to safely, securely, compliantly, and cost-effectively execute routine and project activities in a high-demanding environment.
The responsibilities of this Operations Manager include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provide operational oversight of the Institutional Facilities operations portfolio.
Provide support and oversight over the execution of facility Equipment surveillances and maintenance.
Authorize maintenance and construction activities based on facility status.
Manage and coordinate the proper response to abnormal conditions and submit reports in accordance with institutional guidelines.
Lead/Support the Plan of the Week & Plan of the Day meetings.
Maintain the facility categorization during steady state and changing programmatic operations.
Assist with development of IWDs, various permits and other technical documents to support programmatic and project work.
Assist with development and coordination of plant/system outages to support project work with minimal impact to programmatic operations.
Coordinate facility and programmatic resources to support project work.
Coordinate/forecast the need for additional project resources in time to be able to obtain those resources on or before the need date, and identification of excess resources in time to be able to reallocate them as soon as they can be released.
Provide oversight on project activities to help ensure that projects are being executed safely, securely and compliantly.
Act a primary point of contact between the facility personnel and customers.
Manage the multi-million dollar budget allocated for the assigned portfolio.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Demonstrated knowledge of Conduct of Operations and experience implementing sound operational discipline principles in high-availability environments.
Knowledge of maintenance, engineering, and training policies related to mission-critical infrastructure (e.g., data centers, utilities, or similar systems).
Demonstrated experience planning, organizing, leading, and monitoring a wide variety of activities and team efforts to successful completion.
Demonstrated ability to understand work hazards, safety practices, operating configurations, and lock-out/tag-out policies and procedures.
Ability to manage complex projects with limited resources in an environment of conflicting priorities and strict uptime requirements.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Integrated Work Management, Integrated Safety Management (ISM), and Integrated Safeguards and Security Management. (ISSM), or equivalent programs, including experience reviewing and authorizing work packages.
Demonstrated experience developing teams and individuals in a collaborative work environment.
Demonstrated excellent customer service and communication skills.
Management experience.
Education/Experience : Position requires a bachelor's degree and 8 years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience with operations of mission-critical data centers or similar high-availability environments.
Demonstrated experience and understanding of operations management principles as applied to critical infrastructure: systems engineering, work control, hazard. identification and analysis, configuration management, maintenance management, and project management.
Experience managing power, cooling, UPS, generators, networking infrastructure, or similar critical systems.
Demonstrated project management experience for infrastructure upgrades, maintenance, and construction projects.
Experience with incident management, root cause analysis, and lessons learned processes.
Work Environment:
Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position Commitment : Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Clearance : Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements : To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. New-Employment Drug Test : The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular Position : Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
