Summary The incumbent in this position is under the supervision of the Chief, Maintenance & Operations specializing in Carpentry and also performs maintenance and repair of architectural, mechanical, and electrical components of buildings requiring the use of a variety of trades and practices associated with the following occupations: Carpentry, Plastering, Painting Plumbing, Electrical, and Air Conditioning. Responsibilities CARPENTRY: The incumbent specializes in Carpentry and must know how to plan and measure material according to requirements and dimensions outlined in instructions. Must have the skill to use tapes, rules, and squares accurately and to use shop tools, such as hammers, handsaws, planes, screwdrivers, power saws, and power planers. Has a thorough knowledge of wood and wood substitute materials, and construction techniques. They are skilled in the operation of general and precision carpentry and woodworking equipment and are able to produce finished products with precise fits, accurate dimensions, and acceptable appearance. The incumbents are able to interpret complex instructions, sketches, blueprints, and building codes. PLASTERING: Must have a basic knowledge of plastering trade practices and be able to apply commonly accepted work methods and techniques. Must know how to prepare damaged areas to insure that the new plaster will adhere to surface and surrounding plaster. Must have the ability to apply new plaster and finish in such a manner that it bends with the adjoining area. PAINTING: Must have knowledge of standard surface preparation and coating methods and techniques. For example, he/she must know how to remove such things as scale, rust, dirt, and old paint from surfaces so that coating materials will adhere properly. Apply coating materials so that the surfaces are free from skips, runs, drips, and other assigned duties. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm Position Description Title/PD#: Carpenter/PD00306A Physical Requirements: The duties require considerable movement around the hospital and involve bending, lifting, working from ladders and scaffolding and platforms, both in the outside buildings, and crawling through restrictive areas. The incumbent must occasionally lift equipment or materials weighing fifty pounds or more with proper equipment. Assignments may require him/her to stand, stoop, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
