About this Job
At Acadiana Area Human Services District, our mission is to improve the quality of life for citizens of Acadiana who have behavioral health and/or intellectual/developmental disabilities.
We're looking for an Accountant to join our team as the staff accountant for the District which is comprised of five physical sites (Crowley Behavioral Health, Ville Platte Behavioral Health, Opelousas Behavioral Health, New Iberia Behavioral Health and the Tyler Behavioral Health Clinic) within a seven (7) parish area.
Minimum Qualifications
Four years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR
Six years of full-time experience in any field plus twenty-four semester hours in accounting plus one year of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR
A bachelor's degree with twenty-four semester hours in accounting plus one year of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR
A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics plus one year of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR
An advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, quantitative methods, or statistics; OR
Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
As an Accountant, you will:
Perform independent financial functions including budget preparation, capital outlay preparation, and cost allocation for budget and GASB 87 and data compilation for annual financial statement.
Utilize extensive decision making to analyze, interpret and project expenditures and revenue patters, recognizing any abnormalities and report corrective actions.
Perform accounting services, billing and revenue collections, procurement and purchasing, contract expenditure and budgeting expenditure tracking.
Perform activities in web-based programs such as LaGov, State Procurement Electronic System, Capital Outlay Request Tracking System (eCorts), Electronic Card Payment Management System (WORKS) and internal Quickbooks accounting software.
Function at advanced levels on several computer systems and software programs.

Appointment Type: Probational and Promotional
Career Progression: This position may be filled as an Accounting 2 or 3. The level at which the vacancy is filled will be determined by the qualifications of the candidate selected. This position provides the opportunity to advance within this job series.
Work Schedule:Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
Compensation:The actual starting salary depends on the education and experience of the selected applicant.
