Job Title: Accounting ManagerJob Description
The Accounting Manager accurately manages the financial accounting process, ensuring a timely and precise month-end close and high-quality financial reporting in line with established policies, procedures, and accounting standards. This role provides leadership and direction to the accounting team, drives continuous process improvement, and partners closely with internal and external stakeholders to maintain strong financial controls and full compliance.
Responsibilities
Lead, develop, mentor, and train the accounting team to drive strong performance, engagement, and career growth.
Oversee the timely completion and thorough review of balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and prompt resolution of aged items.
Manage the month-end close process to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
Partner with tax managers and external consultants to ensure full tax compliance across all relevant jurisdictions.
Support interim and year-end external audits by providing complete, accurate, and timely information and documentation.
Collaborate with Internal Audit to remediate identified issues within agreed deadlines and strengthen internal control processes.
Manage stakeholder expectations and build strong cross-functional relationships across the organization.
Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements and standardization opportunities within the accounting function.
Assist the Head of Accounting with finance projects, special initiatives, and ad hoc analyses as needed.
Ensure compliance with company policies, internal controls, and applicable accounting standards.
Maintain, update, and enhance process documentation, procedures, and accounting policies.
Support the preparation, tracking, and reporting of key Accounting KPIs to monitor performance and drive improvements.
Manage team-level job descriptions, performance objectives, performance reviews, and development plans for direct reports.
Oversee general ledger activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and review of financial information for accuracy and completeness.
Ensure that financial reporting aligns with corporate requirements and supports effective business decision-making.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Minimum 8 years of experience in an accounting role.
At least 1 year of managerial or supervisory experience leading a team.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and general ledger management.
Hands-on experience with balance sheet reconciliations and month-end close processes.
Proficiency in preparing and reviewing journal entries and financial reports.
Experience operating or managing within a global or shared service center (SSC) organization.
Prior experience working in a large, complex corporate environment, preferably within manufacturing.
Proven ability to manage and influence stakeholders in a complex organizational setting.
Experience working with SAP (required).
Strong understanding of internal controls and compliance requirements.
Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and KPIs.
Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to coach, develop, and motivate a team.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, both written and verbal.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
CPA or equivalent professional accounting qualification preferred.
Experience in a manufacturing environment is highly advantageous.
Background in global or shared service center operations is beneficial.
Demonstrated ability to identify and implement process improvements and standardization.
Experience supporting external audits and working with internal audit teams.
Comfort working in a large, matrixed corporate environment.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
Proficiency in using SAP and related financial systems and tools.
Experience preparing or supporting accounting KPIs and performance reporting.
Work Environment
This role operates in a hybrid work environment, with three days in the office and two days working from home each week. The position sits within a large, complex corporate setting and interacts frequently with cross-functional teams, shared service centers, and global stakeholders. The organization expects professional office attire when on-site. The headquarters location is expected to move to a nearby, similar area in the future, although final details are not yet confirmed. The team uses SAP and other standard office and financial systems in a modern, collaborative office environment.
