Job Title: Construction Superintendent - Life Science / ManufacturingJob Description
This role oversees field construction activities for life science, pharmaceutical, and manufacturing projects, ensuring they are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The Construction Superintendent leads union subcontractors and vendors on site, manages project execution using Procore, and serves as a key point of contact for clients, project leadership, and trade partners. This position offers the opportunity to gain deep experience in pharmaceutical construction on large, complex projects with long-term, stable work.
Responsibilities
Assume primary responsibility for activities associated with specific trades on assigned construction sites.
Lead and coordinate assigned vendors and subcontractors to meet project goals, milestones, and quality expectations.
Manage daily union subcontractors and align them to weekly project schedules.
Develop, maintain, and manage daily and weekly project schedules in coordination with the Project Director, Project Manager, and Construction Manager.
Ensure all work on site meets applicable safety objectives and complies with corporate safety programs.
Ensure project activities meet corporate goals and applicable quality requirements for assigned projects.
Interact with clients at the project site and promote positive, professional relationships.
Support the development and maintenance of preconstruction, construction, and closeout execution plans.
Support the development and maintenance of detailed project schedules, including targeted and actual activity lists, durations, and sequencing logic.
Develop a working knowledge of the project budget for assigned trades and identify exceptions or variances throughout project execution.
Support the Project Director and Project Manager with change control documentation and related financial documentation.
Protect corporate positions by enforcing contract requirements and project standards in the field.
Oversee the work of assigned vendors and subcontractors to ensure compliance with project specifications and quality requirements.
Participate in constructibility reviews of design documents and provide field-driven feedback.
Support the Project Director and Project Manager in the procurement and coordination of external project resources.
Work with project leadership to conduct pre-bid walk-throughs and de-scope meetings with potential subcontractors and vendors.
Support the Project Manager in evaluating vendor and subcontractor invoices and assist in assessing payment requests against actual performance.
Manage subcontractor and vendor field time-and-materials (T&M) change requests, including evaluating contractual legitimacy and cost estimate validity.
Facilitate communication between subcontractors, vendors, and project personnel, and produce clear documentation of project communications.
Support the Request for Information (RFI) process by coordinating field questions and tracking responses.
Perform periodic site inspections and evaluations, and provide detailed reports on findings.
Support the production of daily reports of site conditions, including weather, manpower levels, progress, and safety issues.
Review job safety analysis documentation and other safety documentation in coordination with health and safety professionals.
Support periodic coordination meetings with trade subcontractors on site to align on scope, schedule, and safety.
Support Construction Management and Document Control to ensure all submittals are distributed, reviewed, tracked, and stored in accordance with project and corporate requirements.
Review submittals as needed to confirm compliance with project specifications and requirements.
Support project leadership in ensuring that project activities comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
Oversee startup activities for assigned trades when included in the project scope.
Oversee commissioning activities for assigned trades when included in the project scope.
Read and interpret blueprints and construction documents to guide field execution.
Prepare and submit accurate daily and weekly progress reports that reflect site activities, issues, and accomplishments.
Essential Skills
5-15 years of Construction Superintendent experience in life science or manufacturing projects; healthcare construction experience may be considered.
Demonstrated experience in construction management, field management, and subcontractor management on complex projects.
Proficiency in managing projects using Procore construction management software.
Strong ability to manage union subcontractors and align them with daily and weekly schedules.
Proven experience in field supervision and construction supervision on active job sites.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings accurately.
Experience producing clear and detailed daily and weekly progress reports.
Strong focus on quality control and compliance with project specifications.
OSHA 30 certification.
Ability to evaluate subcontractor and vendor T&M change requests for contractual legitimacy and cost validity.
Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with clients, project leadership, subcontractors, and vendors.
Ability to support and enforce site safety requirements and job safety analysis documentation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience on pharmaceutical or laboratory construction projects, including large-scale work (e.g., $50M+), is highly desirable.
Background in design-build environments is a plus.
Experience supporting preconstruction, construction, and closeout planning and execution.
Familiarity with constructibility reviews and providing field feedback on design documents.
Experience with change control processes and related financial documentation.
Ability to support procurement and coordination of external project resources.
Experience working within a structured corporate safety and quality program.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documentation and reporting.
Motivation to grow within a leading design-build environment and develop specialized expertise in pharmaceutical construction.
Work Environment
This is a fully on-site role at a pharmaceutical laboratory and manufacturing campus within a small projects division. You will work primarily in active construction environments, coordinating multiple trades and union subcontractors in the field. The work involves regular site walks, inspections, and face-to-face interaction with clients, subcontractors, and project team members. Standard construction site safety protocols apply, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to corporate safety programs. The role offers long-term project continuity, with guaranteed work projected for the next five or more years, and the opportunity to gain extensive experience on complex pharmaceutical construction projects within a large, established design-build organization.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60.09 - $79.32/hr.
