Thriving utility company is looking to hire a thorough Staff Accountant with proven accounting, bookkeeping and payroll skills. The responsibilities for this Staff Accountant role consist of handling general accounting operations such as assisting with accounts payable/receivable activities, reviewing general ledger accounts, preparing financial reports, participating in the month-end/year-end close process, assisting with financial research, maintaining internal controls, processing weekly payroll, providing customer service as needed and collaborating with financial and executive leadership. The ideal candidate for this role should have possessed great day-to-day accounting abilities in compliance with legal industry standards and firm policies. We are looking for someone with strong problem-solving skills and can maintain accurate financial records and contribute to the overall financial health of the firm.

Everyday Responsibilities

· Prepare journal entries, general ledger reconciliations and account analysis

· Assist with daily accounting functions

· Process weekly payroll

· Reconcile and monitor collection accounts

· Maintaining payroll records

· Ensure compliance with applicable standards (GAAP)

· Reconcile bank statements and financial accounts

· Submit and process customer invoices

· Monitor the record keeping system

· Prepare daily credit card transactions

· Assist with audits and provide supporting documentation needed

Requirements

The ideal Staff Accountant will preferably have an Associates or Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance.

Other requirements for the Staff Accountant role include and are not limited to:

· 1-2 years of accounting experience (bookkeeping, payroll, invoicing, journal entries, month-end)

· Software: OnPoint Spectrum and Paychex; nor required

· Construction Industry experience preferred; not required.

· Hourly payroll experience is highly preferred.

· Union experience is a plus.

· Excellent communication skills
