Job Description
The Senior Emerging Technology Risk Oversight Manager serves in the Second Line of Defense (2LoD) and plays a critical leadership role in shaping and executing the Bank's risk governance strategy for emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Generative AI, Agentic AI, Embedded AI and Digital Assets. The role provides independent risk oversight to ensure AI technologies and use cases, and Digital Assets are appropriately identified, risk-tiered, evaluated, monitored, and controlled in alignment with the Bank's risk appetite and applicable regulatory expectations, enabling responsible innovation while maintaining strong risk discipline.
This role provides independent oversight, challenge, and governance of AI and emerging technology risks across the enterprise and partners closely with the First Line of Defense, Model Risk Management, Technology, Information Security, Legal, and Compliance. Through this collaboration, the role ensures AI use cases and technologies are governed consistently within enterprise risk management frameworks and regulatory expectations, supporting effective risk management while facilitating safe and responsible adoption of AI capabilities.
The successful candidate will possess knowledge in artificial intelligence, including AI risk, governance, and emerging AI capabilities, policy execution and financial services risk management, with a working knowledge of relevant regulatory and supervisory frameworks such as the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, EU AI Act, and evolving U.S. regulatory guidance.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute policy, procedure and guidance documents supporting AI Technology Risk Management.
Perform independent risk challenge of first-line emerging technology initiatives.
Oversee First Line AI testing and monitoring programs
Identify, document, escalate, and track emerging technology risks, control gaps, and material issues to senior management and committees
Define and monitor risk metrics, key risk indicators (KRIs), and reporting related to emerging technology adoption
Guide application of responsible AI, risk tiering, materiality, and escalation frameworks to emerging technology use cases across the enterprise, as applicable
Support and participate in regulatory examinations, internal audits, and supervisory reviews related to AI and digital assets
Influence policies, standards, and procedures to balance innovation, profitability, and regulatory compliance.
Ensure awareness and manage the oversight of the AI risk management and Digital Assets processes and related policies to foster compliance and monitoring of risk at the bank.
Provide employees with comprehensive training and resources on AI governance, ethical considerations, and best practices, while promoting a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Demonstrates the ability to build subject-matter expertise rapidly and independently in emerging digital asset technologies
Effectively manages risk in highly ambiguous and evolving digital asset environments
Demonstrates strong cross-functional collaboration skills by aligning risk perspectives and driving consensus across risk teams in complex initiatives.
Provide risk oversight for digital asset and blockchain activities, including stablecoins, tokenized products, smart contracts, custody models, and settlement infrastructure
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience
Typically more than 10 years of applicable experience
Preferred Skills/Experience
Advanced knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, financial services, and regulatory trends that impact their assigned line of business
Advanced understanding of the business line's operations, products/services, systems, and associated risks/controls
Thorough knowledge of Risk/Compliance/Audit competencies
Strong leadership and management skills of processes, projects and people
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Strong analytical, problem-solving and negotiation skills
Proficient computer skills, especially Microsoft Office applications Applicable professional certification
Proven ability to assess complex technology risk landscapes and translate technical concepts into risk implications.
Preferably, familiarity with ServiceNow.
Independent worker that can self-learn complex concepts
This role requires working from a U.S. Bank location three (3) or more days per week

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $133,365.00 - $156,900.00
