Job Summary:
The Campus Police Dispatch serves as the primary communications link between the public and emergency services by receiving and processing emergent and non-emergent calls through multiple communication channels. The dispatcher is responsible for accurately triaging calls, prioritizing incidents, and relaying critical information to appropriate emergency personnel in a timely manner. The role requires the ability to operate multiple dispatch and communication systems simultaneously while maintaining situational awareness in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. Additional responsibilities include maintaining dispatch records and supporting administrative reporting functions.
Essential Job Functions: Our Campus Police Dispatch (in-training) is responsible for the following duties:
Emergency Communications & Call Handling:
Answer and process emergency and non-emergency calls across multiple communication systems.
Provide front-line assistance to in-person visitors requesting police services.
Interview callers, including distressed individuals, and gather critical information quickly and accurately.
Prioritize and manage multiple simultaneous calls, determining appropriate responses.
Evaluate and route complaints and inquiries to the appropriate department or agency.
Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS/NCIC):
Maintain security and integrity of CCIC/NCIC systems in compliance with state and federal regulations.
Operate systems to access, interpret, and disseminate accurate information to authorized personnel.
Provide information on wanted persons, stolen property, vehicles, and weapons.
Obtain, evaluate, and distribute criminal history information in accordance with policy.
Review records for accuracy, including warrant status and extradition eligibility.
Maintain required certification and complete recertification as required.
Dispatch Operations & Radio Communications:
Dispatch emergency and non-emergency calls using radio and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems.
Monitor and coordinate patrol activity to support officer and public safety.
Evaluate incidents to determine jurisdiction, resources, and response needs.
Coordinate and deploy emergency resources effectively and in a timely manner.
Facilitate interagency communication and coordinate services across jurisdictions.
Communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally in all transmissions.
Monitor and track unit activity and calls for service using the CAD system.
Enter, updated, and maintain call details, timestamps, and unit status in real time.
Document and input information from multiple sources into CAD and related systems.
Maintain accurate logs of all radio and telephone communications.
Monitor and respond to multiple radio systems, including Denver Police District 6, MetroNet, Facilities Management, and Parking ensuring timely and appropriate communication.
Coordinate and manage radio communication for Facilities Management and Parking operations as required.
Operate and maintain proficiency with a variety of complex telecommunications and dispatch equipment.
Dispatch Administrative & Customer Support:
Process, maintain and audit dispatch records to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Enter property and vehicle impound information into the CAD system.
Provide front-line customer service, including, distributing forms, processing payments, and issuing receipts.
Coordinate the release of impounded property in accordance with procedures.
Distribute police reports to authorized agencies and departments securely and timely.
Maintain and organize logs, files, and records to ensure data integrity and accessibility.
Provide administrative support, including notifications, equipment issue reporting, and onboarding assistance.
Perform other duties as assigned in support of operations.
Alarm Computers:
Monitor multiple campus-wide alarm systems, including hold-up, fire/life safety, security, theft and critical mechanical alarms.
Assess and determine the appropriate level of response and dispatch the appropriate emergency personnel.

Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED.
Applicant must beat least 18 years of age.
Possess a valid Colorado Driver License.
Necessary Special Requirements: No:
Felony Convictions.
Domestic Violence Convictions.
Some Misdemeanors.
Acquiring more than seven points in the last year and/or more than 12 points within the last two years on a driver's license.
Alcohol/drug related traffic convictions in the last three years and repeat alcohol/drug convictions after the age 18 within the last then (10) years.
Additional Special Qualifications:
Due to the inherent ability of this position to impact the safety and security of the Auraria Campus, candidates must be able to communicate fluently in English with others (written and verbally).
Applicants must not have any felony convictions, domestic violence history or alcohol offenses within the last (3) years.
Conditions of Employment:
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to complete the required CritiCall assessment. Each eligible candidate will have one opportunity to take the assessment during the hiring process.
This position requires pre-employment background and credit investigation (personal and employment history). Applicants must submit to a complete background investigation that will include a personal and employment background check for various security clearances including Colorado Crime Information (CCIC) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) security clearance. This investigation will include a polygraph interview, fingerprint check and drug screen.
Any offer of employment is contingent on the successful passing of a physical and psychological examination by a licensed doctor or health care facility. The health care facility will be selected or approved by the Auraria Higher Education Center in order to determine whether the prospective employee can perform the essential functions of the job.
Applicants must not have any felony convictions, domestic violence history or alcohol offenses within the last (3) years.
Applicants must not have received a failing result on a psychological evaluation within the preceding 12 months.
Applicants must not have been involuntary terminated from any position within the last preceding 12 months.
Designation as Essential Services. As such, this position is required to be on duty to perform essential and/or emergency services of the agency without delay or interruption.
On-Call Status Required. This position is required to respond on short notice to cover the communications center in case of illness or an agency emergency. During this time, travel restrictions may be in place.
Shift Work Required. Dispatch function is a 24 hour, 7 days a week, 365 days a year function, as such, this position is expected to work holidays, weekends etc...as required by the demands of the job.
