About the Role
The Assistant General Transportation Manager supports high-volume transportation and logistics operations by driving execution, safety, financial performance, and continuous improvement. This role leads teams, manages operational plans, and ensures transportation services consistently meet customer, service, and cost expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
Develop and execute business plans and strategies to achieve transportation goals related to safety, service, quality, and productivity.
Drive operational improvements and support execution across assigned areas of responsibility.
Lead implementation of supply chain initiatives using structured change management and playbooks.
Financial & Performance Management
Monitor and manage expenses against budget; track asset utilization and transportation costs.
Review and analyze operational and financial reports to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
Ensure performance standards are clearly defined, measured, and adjusted as needed.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
Ensure compliance with all company, supply chain, and safety policies, procedures, and standards.
Maintain and update SOPs and supporting documentation.
Promote a strong safety culture and support incident prevention and corrective actions.
People Leadership & Development
Lead, coach, and develop associates and leaders within assigned areas.
Set clear expectations, monitor performance, and provide regular feedback.
Support hiring, training, mentoring, performance evaluations, and succession planning.
Build a team-based environment that promotes engagement, accountability, and growth.
Continuous Improvement
Support and drive continuous improvement initiatives aligned with the Walmart Performance System (WPS).
Lead root cause analysis and corrective action processes to address operational gaps.
Identify and remove barriers that impact performance, service, or cost.
Change & Initiative Management
Execute multiple projects and business plans simultaneously.
Identify customer and operational needs and align resources accordingly.
Develop contingency plans and demonstrate adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
Promote continuous learning and improvement across teams.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
Communicate operational expectations to transportation partners and suppliers.
Address performance issues through fact-based problem solving.
Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure transportation solutions align with business needs.

What you'll do...
Develops and implements the business plan and new strategies for assigned area of responsibility to achieve large or mediumscale facility goals for example production quality safety and implementing operational improvements
Manages assigned financial aspects by monitoring and tracking expenses against budgets monitoring asset utilization and preparing reviewing and analyzing business reports
Monitors and ensures facilitywide compliance with supply chain and company quality and safety standards policies procedures and directives by developing distributing and maintaining procedures and supporting documentation
Serves as a community liaison by participating in local and community organizations and charitable activities promoting companysponsored programs and events to associates and customers
Supervises and manages associates and leaders in assigned area of responsibility by giving direction communicating goals monitoring performance and providing feedback identifying training and development needs and providing opportunities for learning and growth teaching and supporting logistics and company policies and procedures and participating in the hiring promotion coaching teaching and evaluation associates facilitywide
Supports continuous improvement efforts consistent with the Walmart Performance System WPS by driving implementation of WPS and establishing root cause analysis process
Implements and monitors supply chain initiatives by incorporating change management principles implementing playbooks and monitoring review and response systems Drives the execution of multiple business plans and projects by identifying customer and operational needs developing and communicating business plans and priorities removing barriers and obstacles that impact performance providing resources identifying performance standards measuring progress and adjusting performance accordingly developing contingency plans and demonstrating adaptability and supporting continuous learning Provides supervision and development opportunities for associates by selecting and training mentoring assigning duties building a teambased work environment establishing performance expectations and conducting regular performance evaluations providing recognition and rewards coaching for success and improvement and promoting a belonging mindset in the workplace Promotes and supports company policies procedures mission values and standards of ethics and integrity by training and providing direction to others in their use and application ensuring compliance with them and utilizing and supporting the Open Door Policy Ensures business needs are being met by evaluating the ongoing effectiveness of current plans programs and initiatives consulting with business partners managers coworkers or other key stakeholders soliciting evaluating and applying suggestions for improving efficiency and costeffectiveness and participating in and supporting community outreach events

The annual salary range for this position is $116,000.00 - $174,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
