A Brief Summary of This Position:
The Industrial Engineering Technician reports to the XXX and may take direction from other engineers and technicians. This position is responsible for supporting Industrial Engineering (IE) initiatives and Production Control (PC) activities in Oklahoma Operations. The incumbent will collaborate with engineering, drafting, production control, and manufacturing teams to maintain accurate routing, part structures, and standard data while identifying opportunities for process optimization, workflow improvement, and continuous improvement. This role is key to advancing Lean manufacturing principles and improving operational efficiency.
Essential Functions:
Review routings and product structures to verify accuracy, completeness, and alignment with manufacturing capabilities, ensuring standard times and processes are correctly defined.
Identify discrepancies in routings, BOMs (including Q13 issues), or process flows and escalate issues to Engineering, Production Control, or appropriate stakeholders, providing data-driven recommendations for correction.
Process Engineering Change Orders (ECNs) and assess their impact on production schedules, resource allocation, and standard times, making recommendations for process adjustments.
Conduct time studies and apply results to standard data, line balancing, capacity planning, and workflow optimization.
Collaborate with Production Control, Quality, Maintenance, and Manufacturing to improve throughput, product quality, and production readiness for new products.
Utilize design and manufacturing software to create, validate, and optimize part designs This role is responsible for all CNC programming. This includes but is not limited to: AutoCAD, ShaftMaker Software, MasterCAM, ProNest, Cutlite Laser, Tag Maker
Support Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives, including Kaizen events, workflow standardization (Standard Work), and time studies.
Analyze production data and routing performance to identify trends, inaccuracies, and opportunities for improvement in standard times and process flows.
Maintain cooperative cross-functional relationships with Engineering, Production Control, and Manufacturing teams to support continuous improvement and Lean initiatives.
Stay current on processing methods, tool capabilities, Lean/IE methodologies, and best practices, applying knowledge to improve productivity, throughput, and standard times.
Develop and maintain SOPs, work instructions, and standard operating procedures in collaboration with Production Control and Manufacturing teams.
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
High school diploma and 5+ years of work/educational experience or associate's degree
Ability to do basic math: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions and decimals
Knowledge of or the ability to learn the following computer programs to support job functions: IFS, EVA, Microsoft Office, and CNC programming using basic AutoCAD
Ability to read and interpret production drawings
Excellent communication, organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills
Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:
Associate's degree in engineering technology or related field preferred.
Experience with AutoCAD, Shaft Creation Software, MasterCAM, ProNest, and Cutlite Laser.
Computer-aided drafting (CAD) skills with an understanding of part tolerances, manufacturing constraints, and production flow.
Experience in manufacturing/production environments, preferably steel/metal facilities.
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles, process improvement, and workflow optimization.
Background or experience in quality systems, production standards, and industrial engineering analytics.
Working Environment and Physical Efforts:
Work is performed in an office setting, with most of the time being spent moving around different areas of production floor. The incumbent is regularly required to sit, walk, and stand for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. This position will be exposed to all hazards located at manufacturing sites including noise, fumes, excessive heat/cold, dust, welding arc, all chemicals associated with the manufacturing areas, fire, smoke, unstable debris and confined spaces. Environment is fast-paced and demanding most of the time.
The employee is frequently required to use hands to fingers, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrist rests. The incumbent must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds in working with large files, binders, computer equipment and shop equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
