About this Job
The Louisiana Motor Vehicle Commission (LMVC) was created by the Louisiana Legislature in 1954 for the purpose of licensing and regulation of the new motor vehicle industry. Over the years, the legislature expanded the licensing and regulatory duties of the LMVC to include licensing and regulation of the recreational product industry, vehicle protection warrantors, those engaged in activities subject to motor vehicle sales finance act, motor vehicle lessors, convertor/secondary manufacturers, specialty vehicle dealers, satellite warranty and repair centers, brokers, and debt waiver and debt forgiveness agreements. The LMVC is an agency located in the Office of the Governor pursuant to LA. R.S. 32:1253.A and LA-R.S. 36:4.1. (C)(12). The LMVC administers laws enacted by the Louisiana Legislature: LA-RS: Title 32, Chapters 6 and 6-A; LA-RS: Title 6, Chapter 10-B; and administers promulgated rules found in the Louisiana Administrative Code ("LAC") Title 46, Part V (Automotive Industry) Subpart 1 (Motor Vehicle Commission) and Subpart 3 (Motor Vehicle Sales Finance).
LA-R.S. 1251 et seq. authorizes the LMVC to issue various licenses as required by Louisiana statutes to regulate the sale and distribution of motor vehicles, specialty vehicles, and recreational products, and warrantors of vehicle protection products. In accordance with LA-R.S.6:969.1, LMVC oversees licensing for entities involved in motor vehicle financing, origination of consumer loans, and associated debt waiver or debt forgiveness agreements. Conducting business without the required license (s) constitutes a violation of the law. The LMVC is dedicated to fostering a fair, competitive, and transparent motor vehicle and recreational product industry in Louisiana. Through diligent regulation and licensing, we strive to protect consumers, promote public safety, and support the economic well-being of Louisiana. We are committed to preventing fraud, ensuring honest competition, and maintaining the integrity of the industry. Our experienced team maintains the highest standards of integrity, passion, and respect while delivering exceptional service to the citizens of Louisiana and all licensees.
