What You Will Do
We are seeking a senior-level manager to lead the Department of War (DoW) Program Office within the Weapons Engineering Program Integration Office (ALDW-PO) - a Project-Program Director 5 (PPD-5). This position reports to the ALDW-PO Project-Program Director 6 and Project-Program Director 5 and will have both programmatic and line management responsibilities and authorities.
This role will coordinate, define, and manage technical scope with various entities within the DoW, with execution carried out by capability organizations within Los Alamos. It combines responsibilities previously held by two separate roles-Strategic Deterrence Systems and Conventional and Hypersonic Systems-thereby increasing complexity and expanding the number of external interfaces requiring coordination.
The selected candidate will initially manage existing DoW scope currently under contract, with expectations to expand and strengthen a network of DoW partners. The role will also require coordination with internal partners (e.g., Global Security Program Office (GS-PROG) and SASA) to establish an integrated team managing Los Alamos engagement with the DoW.
As a PPD-5, this position includes line management responsibilities. The successful candidate will assume leadership of the existing team and augment staffing as needed.

As the leader of the DoW Program Office, you will be responsible for maintaining, exercising, and enhancing capabilities to meet current and future mission needs.
Responsibilities include:
Capability Assessment & Planning
Continuously assess current office capabilities against directorate and DoW mission needs.
Develop and maintain plans to address capability gaps using internal resources or collaboration across LANL organizations.
Line Management (Responsible Line Manager - RLM)
Serve as the Responsible Line Manager (RLM) for DoW Program Office staff.
Evaluate staff performance and provide regular, constructive feedback.
Foster a culture of continuous learning through individual and team engagement.
Support and guide professional development of all team members.
Strategic Resource Alignment
Develop and implement strategies to align technical resources with current and future mission scope.
Program Oversight
Provide oversight and guidance to program managers across DoW Program Office portfolios.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Program Management
Expert-level knowledge of and experience in all aspects of program and/or project management of technical or operational work, including defining work scope, schedules, budgets, priorities, and performance milestones; developing cost, scope, and schedule baselines; reporting cost and schedule variances; and managing change control and risk.
Line Management
Demonstrated experience in leadership, management, supervision, and development of assigned employees within a moderate- to large-sized multidisciplinary team.
Communication
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of internal and/or external personnel, including building trust, gaining consensus, and resolving conflict.
Project Facilitation
Demonstrated ability to meet schedules and deliverables across projects with varying priorities. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as effectively contribute as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
Program Integration
Extensive experience collaborating with industry, academia, the Department of War, and/or other technical communities within the DOE complex (preferably across two or more of these areas).
Technical Experience
Deep-and preferably broad-knowledge of current and historical DoW-related mission scope.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a science or engineering discipline, from an accredited institution and 12 years of directly related technical and project/program management experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. At this level an advanced degree is typically expected.
Desired Qualifications:
Proven leadership and a strong knowledge base within the Nuclear Weapons Complex, part icularly with DoW interfaces.
Knowledge of LANL financial, scheduling, and business tools and procedures.
Demonstrated strategic collaboration and effective tactical partnership.
Ability to identify, recruit, and retain innovative staff while supporting their professional development.
Demonstrated exceptional customer service skills and experience managing customer interactions effectively.
Demonstrated experience developing strategy at the laboratory and/or national level, with a track record of successful implementation.
Experience in cross-organizational programmatic leadership within high-value and high-consequence program areas.
Proven ability to work closely with program, project, and line management to ensure performance, schedule adherence, and progress against milestones.
Experience interacting with Federal Program Managers/Directors and peer laboratory counterparts.
Ability to independently identify opportunities and challenges, and effectively resolve problems.
Experience collaborating with internal and external organizations to evaluate, develop, negotiate, and maintain partnerships and strategic relationships with DoW/DOE/NNSA customers, other government agencies, academic institutions, and/or private industry.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, or willingness to obtain PMP certification within the first year of employment.
Advanced degree from an accredited institution (e.g., MBA, Master of Science, or Engineering).
Active Q clearance and ability to obtain and maintain SCI-level clearance.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q/SCI (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens.
