Louisiana State Employees' Retirement System (LASERS) is state retirement system in Baton Rouge, LA recruiting for an Investment Accountant. The Investment Accountant position is unique in state government and is highly specialized. Position requires several years of on-the-job training to master required investment terminology, reconciliations, and analysis duties. LASERS Investment Accountants function as the back office for internal fund management, which consists of balancing and reconciling assets with custodian bank as well as affirming trades. LASERS portfolio includes alternative investments which Investment Accountants reconcile fee payments pursuant to contracts.
Minimum Qualifications
Three years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR
Six years of full-time experience in any field plus twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR
A bachelor's degree with twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR
A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics; OR
An advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, quantitative methods, or statistics; OR
Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
The key responsibilities of an Investment Accountant are:
Assist in accounting for a wide range of investment transactions, including stocks, bonds, foreign currency, and alternative investments (e.g., hedge funds, real estate, and venture capital), ensuring accurate classification and compliance with policies.
Support the monthly close process by helping prepare financial statements and related reports.
Assist with annual financial reporting and external audits, including preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and Summary Annual Report (PAFR), ensuring compliance with GASB standards and GFOA guidelines.
Analyze financial data, identify discrepancies, and investigate issues to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Prepare journal entries and maintain accurate accounting records.
Perform monthly reconciliations of general ledger accounts and resolve any variances.
Support and maintain investment accounting systems, including in-house and third-party platforms, to track and reconcile investment activity.
Review investment manager invoices for accuracy and contract compliance, and submit them for approval and payment.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: Probational. LASERS requires all new hires to serve a minimum of eighteen (18) months not to exceed twenty-four (24) months in probational status including permanent state employees.
Career Progression: This position may be filled as an Accountant 1, Accountant 2, Accountant 3, or Accountant 4
Work Schedule: 8 hours daily, Monday - Friday choosing a schedule with a start time between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM.
Compensation:
The Accountant 1 position has a Special Entrance Rate of $44,990.40 /annually
The Accountant 2 position has a Special Entrance Rate of $48,131.20 /annually
The Accountant 3 position has a Special Entrance Rate of $55,120.00 /annually
The Accountant 4 position has a Special Entrance Rate of $63,128.00 /annually
