Accountant Auditor I (Payroll focus)

Accountant Auditor I/II (General Accounting focus)
This role provides technical financial support by maintaining general ledgers and performing reconciliations of subsidiary ledgers, bank statements and grant transactions. This position plays a key role in the success of year-end closing and the preparation and analysis of financial statements for the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), all while ensuring compliance with external audits, internal controls and accounting standards. The ideal candidate will have analytical thinking, ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, and strong communication skills. Candidates will be evaluated for placement at either the I or II level based on qualifications and expertise.
The City offers a robust benefits package featuring generous leave accruals and retirement contributions. Key benefits include:
Personal Leave: 100 hours annually (accrues at 3.85 hours/pay period)

Minimum Qualifications
Accountant Auditor I
Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in accounting, or in business administration, with a concentration in accounting is required.
Experience: One (1) year of professional-level accounting/auditing experience that demonstrates application of the above knowledge, skills and abilities is required.
Accountant Auditor II
Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in accounting, or in business administration, with a concentration in accounting is required.
Experience: Two (2) years' experience equivalent to an Accounting Auditor I or three (3) years of professional-level accounting/auditing experience that demonstrates application of the above knowledge, skills and abilities are required.
LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATE (required for both levels):
Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License is required; possession of a valid equivalent is acceptable during the application process.
A CPA license is desirable, but not required.
