Wage Range: $48.20- $77.50 per hour. The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation, such as shift differentials and premiums may be available for this role. Job offers are determined based on a candidate's years of relevant experience, applicable education and internal equity.

Consistently exhibits professional conduct that is a behavior-based expression of the hospital's Standards of Excellence. Assists in the general oversight of point of care testing (POC) within the organization. This includes monitoring of compliance, training staff, and continuing education of all POC users. This role also includes the general maintenance and quality assurance checks for all POC devices on the Monroe campus.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE; CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:
Certified as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (formerly Medical Technologist) by: American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or American Medical Technologist (AMT), or National Certifying Agency (NCA), or Department of Health, Education and Welfare (HEW), and have a Bachelor's Degree in a Biological Science or Chemistry with proven proficiency in Laboratory science.
SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Effective written and oral communication skills, computer skills and organizational skills required. Equipment and instruments used, includes but are not limited to, standard microscopes, centrifuges, water baths, incubators, automated cell washers, blood bank refrigerators and freezers, automated instruments for hematology, coagulation and chemistry, and urinalysis instruments. Absolute integrity in the accurate performance and reporting of results. Ability to organize and prioritize workload. Demonstrates ability and desire to cooperate in laboratory program of specific specialty area and perform bench lead duties as assigned. Ability to analyze and interpret QC data and make necessary analyzer adjustments. Use of personal protective equipment as appropriate, documentation of immunization/immunity against hepatitis B, and training related to blood-borne pathogens is required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:
Adheres to all State and Federal regulations pertaining to hazardous materials and BBP. Hazards include risk of exposure to communicable disease, hazardous substances and risk of physical injury from lifting or operating electrical equipment.
WORK CONTACT GROUP: All hospital departments, patients, families, visitors, nursing personnel and medical staff.
SPECIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Moderate amounts of sitting, standing or walking; occasional light lifting up to 50 pounds. Fine motor coordination, clear speech, normal hearing and good visual acuity, including color perception.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TECHNICAL
Participates in the development and oversight of programs for all locations performing POCT including policy creation and review.
Works with the lab supervisor or manager to manage training, compliance, education and communication for testing personnel and departments.
Collects data, analyzes and prepares reports reflecting the status of POCT on units.
Participates in training & education of staff performing POCT.
Ensures all staff performing POCT meet current training and educational requirements.
Conducts inspection visits to the units performing POCT, including offsite locations.
Manages POCT supply inventory.
Develops, monitors and maintains electronic interfaces between POCT instrumentation and the organization's electronic medical record system.
Ensures that the EvergreenHealth POCT program meets State, Joint Commission (JC) and College of American Pathologists standards.
Performs other duties as assigned.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/COMPETENCIES
Proficiency in reading, writing, comprehending and speaking English as required for business necessity.
Accountability for HIPAA privacy and security standards within the department or assigned nursing unit.
Must possess basic skills to use Microsoft Office (Access & Power Point), specialized software and electronic office equipment. Provides patient care, based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and related criteria, specific to the age of the patient population served in the department or assigned nursing unit.
Adheres to organizational patient safety standards relevant to the department or assigned nursing unit.
Demonstrates the ability to develop positive relationships with non-laboratory staff and management to ensure the POCT program is effective and customer-service oriented.
Acts as a technical resource for staff performing POCT.
Maintains adequate POCT supply inventory and monitors appropriate use.
Monitors the quality control and proficiency testing to ensure compliance with CAP, JC and State of Washington regulations.
Observes POCT as performed on the nursing units and reports on deviations from established procedures.
Observes POCT supplies and equipment as used and stored on the nursing units to ensure proper labeling, storage and use. Periodically inspects nursing units for out-of-date supplies.
Periodically inspects nursing units for proper record-keeping, e.g., temperature records for refrigerators used to store POCT supplies.
Provides back-up for POCT Coordinator.
Must utilize laboratory and hospital information system applications to deliver and track patient care
Must possess advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications
Understanding of statistics as related to quality control of laboratory testing
Requires extensive knowledge of the complexities of the regulations applicable to POCT (CAP, CLIA, Joint Commission, State of Washington)
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between EvergreenHealth Monroe and United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), Local 3000.
