Transportation Project Manager

Civil Engineering | Transportation Infrastructure

Objective

This position is responsible for managing transportation infrastructure projects from initial concept through final delivery. The role requires ownership of project scope, schedule, budget, and quality while serving as the primary liaison for clients and regulatory agencies. Candidates should bring a background in highway, bridge, or traffic engineering and be prepared to step into a visible leadership position within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.

Responsibilities

Direct the full lifecycle of transportation design projects, including planning, design, and construction-phase support.

Manage project budgets, staffing plans, schedules, and scope to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery.

Coordinate design strategy across internal teams and external clients to maintain alignment throughout project execution.

Ensure all deliverables meet applicable federal, state, and local regulatory and permitting requirements.

Identify and mitigate project risks in advance of schedule or cost impacts.

Act as the primary point of contact for clients, government agencies, and project stakeholders.

Oversee project billing, client status reporting, QA/QC reviews, and formal project closeout.

Contribute to proposal development, scope writing, and fee estimation for new and existing work.

Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineering staff.

Requirements

B.S. in Civil Engineering required.

7 or more years of progressive experience in transportation design engineering and project management.

Demonstrated delivery of transportation projects involving highway, bridge, or traffic systems from design through completion.

Proficiency in MS Office suite.

Established track record of building and sustaining long-term client relationships.

Preferences

Master's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.

Active Professional Engineer (PE) license, or demonstrated progress toward licensure.

Proficiency in MicroStation.

Familiarity with PennDOT design standards, specifications, and project delivery processes.
