Job Description

Join our team as a 1st Shift Mechanic in the Truck Shop, working from 8am to 5pm with some flexibility. This position involves half-day work on Saturdays and occasional travel to plants in Chicago and Detroit, approximately three times a year. Your primary responsibility will be repairing engines, body work, chassis, and powertrain for fleet vehicles, including pick-up trucks, boats, golf carts, and tractor trailers. Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining forklifts in the facility and performing minor industrial machine repairs as needed.

Responsibilities

Perform preventive maintenance, diagnoses, and repairs on heavy-duty trucks, aerial equipment, and construction equipment.

Conduct DOT inspections and complete required paperwork.

Manage inventory of replacement parts to ensure shop efficiency.

Inspect and diagnose malfunctions in trailer systems and perform repairs on ABS, air brakes, frame, body, suspension, and electrical systems.

Perform regular check-ups and preventative maintenance on trailers, lift trucks, and shop vehicles.

Coordinate with staff to receive and execute work instructions promptly.

Document all repairs and preventive maintenance activities.

Supply recommendations on repairs, equipment condition, and replacements.

Essential Skills

Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.

Proven experience in electrical and mechanical repairs for gasoline and diesel vehicles.

Ability to use computer systems to document maintenance in CMMS.

Must own personal tools; specialty and diagnostic tools are a plus.

Bodywork experience and some welding and fabrication skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Willingness to obtain a Chauffeur's license.

Ability to conduct repairs and maintenance on a variety of vehicles.

Work Environment

This role operates on a 1st Shift schedule, Monday through Friday, with occasional half-day Saturdays. Travel to Chicago or Detroit facilities may occur 2-3 times a year, with expenses covered for overnight stays. Work primarily involves gas-powered vehicles, with few diesel trucks.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Grandville, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $28.00/hr.
