About The Role:
Settled in the award-winning San Diego Convention Center, and under the general direction of the Director of Event Operations, this position manages and occasionally supervises the daily operations of the Cleaning Services and Event Set-up divisions including, but not limited to; safety and training programs, event support, operational efficiency, performance management and talent development in order to execute the department objectives
What You Will Do:
Event Operations
Resolves complex issues in creative and effective ways.
Coordinates logistical planning for events.
Coordinates Tier-II training and testing for represented staff.
Communicates performance expectations and provides employees with on-going feedback.
Formulates estimates and final billing for Cleaning Services or Event Set-up services.
Ensure supervisors and line staff are trained in all job duties, procedures, equipment, safety issues, and facility information.
Responsible for procurement and inventory control of all applicable divisions' materials and supplies.
Ensures handling, storage, and labeling of all cleaning services chemicals in accordance with state and federal regulations.
Conducts meetings and prepares and maintains written reports.
Ensures that the facilities are properly maintained and show ready for daily activity.
Occasionally stands in for Supervisors as needed.
Organizes and executes special projects meeting predetermined goals for quality and completion.
Assists in the formation of monthly and annual budgets and forecasts as directed.
Continuously improves the programs, policies, practices, and processes associated with meeting the strategic and operational needs of the organization.
Works with Human Resources to ensure employees comply with all laws related to employees benefits, compensation, employment, and training.
Performance Management and Talent Development
Ensures compliance with all building policies, labor contracts, performance standards, safety practices and all other company policies. Onboards new supervisors in the Event Operations Division.
Conducts training including but not limited to safety meetings, equipment training, compliance training, documenting necessary reports.
Conducts employee disciplinary meetings and investigations and participates in coaching, counseling, and terminations.
Involved in daily oversight and management of staff affiliated with Service Employees International Union (SEIU). Participates in following the discipline/grievance processes and participates in Collected Bargaining Agreement negotiations.
What You Will Need:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); at least four (4) years of supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience with an emphasis in a large facility, preferably in the hospitality, sports facility, concert venue, or convention industry.
California Driver's License is required.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, read, and interpret schematics, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to compose reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
An ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, staff, outside contractors and vendors, other employees, and the public.
This position will work a typical schedule of Second Shift (3pm-11pm). However, work hours may be flexible and include times outside typically scheduled shifts. Must be available to work evenings, holidays, and weekends in a 7/24 operation.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required while experience in Event Management, scheduling, HRIS and CMMS software is preferred.
The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and smell.
The employee frequently moves throughout the facility, must be able to maneuver in/out of tight spaces, low ceiling clearance, over fixed objects, and at times may need to climb. The employee is occasionally required to stand and sit. The employee may occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
The primary office location is located on the Mezzanine Level of the Convention Center.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts.
The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and extreme heat
While on the floor, the noise level in the work environment is usually loud. This position is exposed to cleaning chemicals that are used in accordance with manufacturer's labels, posted on the product.
