Disability Services (DS) encourages applications for an Access Coordinator! The DS team envisions a fully accessible, integrated, and universally designed campus community. This position works with other Disability Access Coordinators and departmental team members to ensure effective program and service delivery occurs in alignment with established processes and guidelines. This position provides direct service to faculty, students, and staff of the university, and requires a collaborative approach within the department, division, and entire university community.This position determines and grants appropriate academic accommodations, adjustments or auxiliary aids and services for students with disabilities in the post-secondary setting, requires expertise in interpretation and application of disability law. This position supports students with disabling conditions by assisting in identifying campus resources, development of self-advocacy skills, development of appropriate academic strategies, and navigation of the diverse and complex campus community.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Determining Accommodations Collaborates with students in building a network of available resources to enhance participation in the university community and larger community related to student needs. Determines appropriate program response and degree of advocacy needed to students, faculty, staff, or others in compliance with federal, state, and local legislation and case law, and university policies. Reviews documentation with regard to currency, completeness, and appropriateness in accordance with ADA, Sections 504 and 508, the ADAAA, Fair Housing Act and Disability Services documentation guidelines. Determines appropriateness of documentation submitted and whether requests for accommodations in the classroom and/or for examinations, including assistive technology and programmatic access, in the housing, dining and parking areas are supported by the documentation. Determine and communicate accommodations based on diagnostic information, current impact in the post-secondary setting, reasonableness of the request, standards of practice and student request, including breadth and depth of prescriptive intervention strategies based on diagnostic information. Reviews diagnostic test results, discusses requests based on those results, and works individually with students to formalize an accommodation plan. Guidance and Referral Advises students with respect to skills and issues in the following areas: rights and responsibilities with regard to academic accommodations including legal parameters of the ADA, Sections 504 and 508, the ADAAA, Fair Housing Act and Disability Services and university policies. Advises with consideration of academic requirements, self-advocacy, career issues specific to disabling conditions and needs, university rules/regulations/policies. Makes decisions including referral to ancillary resources, both on and off campus, as necessary. Determines when and how to provide written and verbal communications on behalf of students to be supportive within legal parameters and established departmental standards of practice. Provides information sessions, phone and/or email responses to prospective students and their parents regarding program philosophy, university requirements, expectations and support services available in the larger university community. Disability Services, University and Community Resource Provides consultation services, in-service training and programming about disabilities to the university, local and state communities including definitions, perspectives, implications, applications of professional research, disability as diversity, state and federal laws, transition to and from post secondary. Provides cultural programming about issues related to disability and diversity. Provide leadership coordination for projects such as web maintenance, student leadership, mentoring, specialized workshops, assistive technology, diversity, departmental liaisons, student surveys, university proctoring, etc. Represents Disability Services as a participant on various university committees. Professional Development Attends and presents at professional conferences, workshops, lunch and learns, seminars, training sessions, and/or professional organizational meetings. Stays abreast of current research in the field by reviewing publications, journals, technical information, etc. Summarizes and synthesizes new information to exchange with colleagues either in a written or an oral manner. Anticipates future needs and trends of post-secondary disability issues.May assist in other areas of the office when needed, including supporting special projects, coverage of the front desk and assistance with proctoring exams. Periodic evenings and weekends may be necessary during certain times, such as final exams' week.
What You Should Know
This position works in a hybrid work modality, with 3 days a week required to be in person.
This position's anticipated schedule is Monday through Friday during regular business hours. Occasional weekend and evening hours are required.
What We Can Offer
The salary range for this position is $55,000 - $57,200 annually.

What We Require
Bachelor's degree in special education, education, rehabilitation, counseling, psychology, or closely related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
What You Will Need
Familiarity with de-escalation techniques and ability to manage discord.
Ability to prioritize and problem solve.
An ability to work independently and in a team setting.
The ability to communicate orally and in writing.
Attention to detail.
