Job Summary and Qualifications
The NICU Respiratory Therapy Supervisor assists the Department Director in overseeing the daily operation of the Respiratory Therapy Department with accountability for leadership, staffing, planning, organizing and controlling, budget management, and functioning in the manager's role in his/her absence. The Supervisor supervises staff and coordinates care of patients requiring respiratory therapy; and collaborates with patients, families, peers, physicians and other members of the health care team in the delivery of patient care. The Supervisor provides direct care to patients as required. He/she must utilize reasoning ability/critical thinking for individual care to meet the needs of patients; communicate effectively with Physicians, patients and managers; and promote customer service initiatives.
What you will do in this role:
Maintain responsibility for department scheduling and day-to-day staffing.
Provide supervision and guidance to staff, including developing and coordinating clinical activities. Resolve employee issues as appropriate.
Implement process improvement initiatives with staff participation.
Provide orientation and mentoring to new staff members, ensure that staff is trained in technical and clinical skills.
Provide direct patient care in appropriate discipline as required.
Serve as a resource person for hospital staff and physicians regarding current practices in respiratory care.
Responsible for assisting Respiratory Manager in TJC preparations, chart auditing, annual staff evaluations/reviews, and interviewing potential respiratory therapy staff candidates.
Role model proactive, collaborative working relationships across all hospital in an interdisciplinary approach to patient care which includes participation in various function teams and/or committees and meetings.
Demonstrate knowledge of human growth and development, assessment, range of treatment, and care of patient/customer needs appropriate to the ages of patients/customers served as per Scope of Service.
Assist Respiratory Director in meeting departmental budget by assessing staffing, monitoring supply costs, reviewing department charges, and seeking opportunities to improve performance. Make appropriate budget recommendations.
Serve as a team leader in the absence of the Director.
Maintain a high level of knowledge related to the department and seek opportunities to enhance professional growth.
What qualifications you will need:
Graduate of a Respiratory Care Program accredited by the AMA and the NBRC required.
Bachelor's Degree required.
Current licensure by the Tennessee Board for Respiratory Care required.
Certified Respiratory Therapist (NBRC-CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (NBRC-RRT) required.
3 years of clinical experience required.
Prior related leadership experience strongly preferred.
Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required.
