The Office of General Counsel is actively seeking an Attorney II - General Litigation Eviction Attorney.

The position reports to a supervising attorney in the General Litigation Department. The primary purpose of this position is to provide litigation and eviction services to the Jacksonville Housing Authority. Work is performed under the direction of a managing or senior attorney as needed. The position may also be asked to handle other matters within the General Litigation Department, such as: commercial litigation, construction litigation, real property litigation, foreclosure, garnishment, eminent domain, and constitutional claims.
Examples of Work
Prosecutes and defends state cases and hearings which will include conducting trials, evidentiary hearings, taking depositions, preparing pleadings, motions, memoranda, and writtendiscovery.
Responds to discovery, including third-party subpoenas.
Provides legal assistance for public records requests.
Performs legal research and prepares opinions on various legal issues.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of Florida civil procedures and rules of evidence.
Ability to interpret and apply legal principles and precedents in resolving complex legal issues. Ability to effectively communicate and express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Abilitytoconductresearchonlegalissuesandpreparelegalopinions.
Ability to gain knowledge of municipal, county, state and federal case law, statutory and regulatory law as it relates to the Jacksonville Housing Authority, City government and other OGC clients.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to prepare and try civil law cases before county and state courts with appropriate supervision.
Open Requirements/Supplemental Information
Graduation from an accredited law school.
Possession of a Florida license to practice law.
Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in litigation.
Professional legal experience in government and/or evictions proceedings is preferred.
Admissions and memberships in other organizations or to practice before courts may be required depending upon the respective practice group.
