Location: Float between Hilton Head Hospital - 25 Hospital Center Blvd, Hilton Head, South Carolina AND Bluffton FSED - 8 Parkside Ave, Bluffton, SC

Shift: varies - weekend and holiday rotation required

Status: Full Time

Our Emergency Department is a 25-bed unit that specializes in providing immediate medical care for patients with severe or urgent illnesses or injuries. It is equipped to handle a wide range of services, including initial assessment, treatment, stabilization, emergencies, from minor injuries to life-threatening conditions and potentially admission to the hospital. Our preferred patient ratio is 4-5:1.

What You'll Do

Assessment: While under the supervision of an RN, practices and demonstrates assessment skills to collaboratively discover the patient's story, integrating the following elements: subjective data, objective data, physical picture, psychosocial components, personal preferences and norms, and learning needs and preferences. Collaborates with supervising RN to interpret data and recognize patterns to determine both immediate and future care needs.

Planning: While under the supervision of an RN, dialogues with the patient/chosen support system to identify what is important to them and incorporate his/her preferences and norms into the established care plan. Participates with the interdisciplinary care team in planning individualized care. Suggests relevant resources based on necessity and availability. Collaborates with supervising RN to determine immediate needs and identify realistic short term and long term goals based on desired outcomes.

Implementation of Interdisciplinary Plan of Care: While under the supervision of an RN, serves as a patient advocate by understanding the patient's perspective and needs. Contributes to the education of the patient and their support system by reinforcing the established educational plan of care. Discusses with supervising RN strategies to progress the patient through the plan of care. Ensures completion of delegated nursing interventions, medical orders, and other related therapies. Begins to prioritize job duties according to patients' needs and changing acuity levels. Administers medication therapies as directed and in accordance with the Graduate Nurse Role policy.

Performs patient transfers and transports patients via wheelchair, hospital bed, or stretcher to other departments.

Evaluation: While under the supervision of an RN, continuously assesses patient's progress toward goals and outcomes. Seeks input from patient and their chosen support system regarding progress toward goals. Suggests modifications to the plan of care as indicated to achieve desired outcomes.

Communication and Documentation: While under the supervision of an RN, discusses individualized plan of care and patient's progress toward goals to all members of the care team including the patient and his/her chosen support system. Utilizes appropriate communication tools such as Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation, and Question (SBARQ) when communicating within the interdisciplinary team and when supporting patient care handoffs. Documents appropriate information in a timely manner.

Performance Accountability/Evidence-Based Practice: Practices according to state's Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code of Ethics and ANA Bill of Rights. Demonstrates awareness of shared governance structures and processes. Displays knowledge of department process improvement initiatives. Reads relevant literature and completes assigned education related to patient population. Engages in self-reflection and develops personal goals to enhance knowledge and professional development. Begins to integrate gained knowledge into practice.

Teamwork: Develops and maintains positive relationships with team members/internal customers. Consistently demonstrates a willingness to adjust activities to accommodate the needs of team members/internal customers.

Develops team members through mentoring, precepting, orientation, and providing feedback. Resolves conflicts independently, as appropriate. Accepts responsibility for actions and responds positively upon feedback from others.

What We're Looking For

Education : High School Diploma or GED, required. 4 Year / Bachelors Degree Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, preferred.

Additional Skills (required): Willingness to learn and demonstrate excellent customer service, verbal and non-verbal communication techniques, interpersonal relationship skills, conflict resolution, and critical thinking and information technology skills.
