Summary The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Wyoming has two positions available for an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) in our Civil Division. The District of Wyoming encompasses a large and diverse geographical area of 97,914 square miles and a relatively small population of about 588,283. These AUSA vacancies are in our headquarters office, located in Cheyenne, Wyoming, the state's capital and largest city. Responsibilities The office has two openings for experienced litigators to serve as AUSAs in the Civil Division in our Cheyenne office. The selected AUSAs will be primarily responsible for representing the United States of America, federal agencies, and federal employees in a wide variety of civil defensive litigation. The caseload may include medical malpractice, premises liability, and other tort litigation; defense of employment discrimination cases; Administrative Procedure Act cases; Immigration cases; Bankruptcy matters, and affirmative civil cases (particularly in the areas of fraud and controlled substance act violations). The Civil Division also oversees the collection of civil and criminal federal debts. This includes fines and any restitution amount ordered by the court, as well as civil judgments with a monetary component. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as training and experience progress. Due to the small number of civil AUSAs employed in the District, each AUSA usually handles a variety of cases and the opportunities to specialize may be limited. Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), have at least 3 years post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience, and demonstrated excellence in trial advocacy and legal writing. If the successful candidate is not a member of the Wyoming State Bar and is not eligible to become a member of the Bar upon motion or transfer of UBE score, he or she will be expected to favorably complete the Wyoming Bar Examination at the next available opportunity. Degree Additional Information Salary Information: Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $67,863 to $165,209 base pay plus 17.06% locality pay.
