Summary The position is located in the Facility Management Department (FMD) of the Facility Support Directorate located in the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC) in North Chicago Illinois. The James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center is larger than just a single facility, but rather a system of facilities throughout Northeastern Illinois which provide medical care and dental services to U.S. Military Veterans, Recruits, Active Duty and eligible beneficiaries. Responsibilities Major Duties: - Passing on to other workers the instructions received from supervisors and getting work started, e.g., by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led. - Working along with other workers and setting the pace. - Demonstrating proper work methods. - Seeing to it that needed plans, blueprints, materials, and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations. - Obtaining needed information or decisions from supervisors on problems that come up during the work. - Maintaining a current knowledge, and answering questions of other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives. - Seeing to it that there is enough work to keep everyone in the work crew busy. - Checking work while in progress and when finished to see whether the supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met. - Urging or advising other workers to follow instructions received from supervisors, and to meet deadlines. - Must have a thorough background and working knowledge of all construction trades and utility systems including plumbing, pipefitting, electrical, carpentry, painting etc. as well as the knowledge and ability to plan, coordinate and supervise the completion of construction work by all trades - In the absence of the Construction Unit supervisor, the incumbent of this position will be expected to accept the full responsibility for the entire production responsibilities of the Construction Unit, as well as managerial responsibilities such as administrative duties, i.e., job assignments and other tasks associated with the daily routine of the Construction Unit. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, training rooms, and libraries. There may be occasional exposure to moderate risks or discomforts in storage areas or hazardous waste sites. Education Additional Information Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
