Physician - Orthopedic Care

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Orthopedic Surgeon will expertly treat a diverse range of acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries and pain, utilizing both medical and surgical interventions. The surgeon must be comfortable working in a rural environment performing the full spectrum of general orthopedic procedures including total joint arthroplasties, sports medicine/arthroscopic procedures, trauma, and amputations. The Orthopedic Surgeon will participate in various quality improvement activities. WhidbeyHealth Orthopedic Surgeons are expected to be emotionally resilient with the ability to communicate effectively and must have the physical stamina to cope with the demands of performing surgery. To ensure success, our Surgeons should have superb organizational skills and the ability to lead and manage a team effectively while working under pressure. Must also have a high degree of manual dexterity, good hand-eye coordination, and excellent visuospatial awareness.

WhidbeyHealth is a Level 4 trauma center, and the surgery clinic is in very close proximity to the hospital. The practice includes a full-time orthopedic PA, the hospital includes 24/7 in house physicians in the ED and daytime hospitalists in house and nocturnal tele-hospitalists. Call requirements vary based on hospital need, typically a low intensity schedule of 1:3. All WhidbeyHealth Orthopedic Surgeons must have a MD or DO degree, be Board eligible or Board certified in general surgery and able to obtain and maintain an unrestricted medical and DEA license in the state of Washington. A minimum of 2-3 years' experience in practice is required and prior experience working in a rural setting is preferred.

PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS includes the following, other duties may be assigned:

Examining patients and making diagnoses to determine the need for surgery.

Reviewing patients' medical history and planning the best surgical procedure for treatment or nonsurgical treatment.

Evaluating and advising patients on the risk involved with having surgery.

Recommending and interpreting diagnostic imaging, such as radiographs, ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)

Consulting and working with radiologists, anesthesiologists, physical therapists, and other medical experts.

Performing surgical procedures on patients with musculoskeletal issues or injuries while adhering to regulatory and ethical protocols.

Following established surgical techniques during surgery.

Prescribing preoperative and postoperative treatments and procedures.

Fully responsible for deciding if operation is necessary, when to operate, and all technical aspects of the operative procedure.

Directing and coordinating activities of hospital staff for proper patient care.

Work closely with healthcare team to utilize and coordinate the services of Health Care Professionals in the management of the patient's medical, psychological, and social problems.

Overseeing all treatments prior to and post-surgery and identifying associated risks.

Prepare and complete, in a timely fashion, the medical and other required records for all parties he/she/they admits or in any way provides care for the hospital or health care facility.

Coordinating follow-up meetings with patients and monitoring their health condition after surgery or treatment.

Maintaining the highest regard for patient dignity.

JOB KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Graduate of an accredited medical school; MD or DO.

Training and Experience

Three (3) years' experience practicing Orthopedic Surgery.

Experience practicing in a rural setting.

Excellent time-management and organizational skills.

Great management and leadership skills.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Current Professional Licensure

Board Eligible or Board Certified in general surgery.

Active unrestricted DEA license required.

BLS required.

Salary Range: $300,000 - $500,000 - Sign-On Opportunity up to $15K!
