The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of Public Health, Bureau of Acute Disease Epidemiology is seeking aDeputy State Epidemiologist, Center for Acute Disease Epidemiology (CADE) Bureau Chief (Public Service Manager 2)to join our team!
Are you ready to make a real impact on public health in Iowa? The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services is seeking a Deputy State Epidemiologist, CADE Bureau Chief to lead critical efforts in acute disease surveillance and response.
In this role, you will:
Oversee investigations of acute infections, outbreaks, and clusters.
Provide leadership and direction for statewide infectious disease surveillance programs.
Ensure 24/7 coverage for acute disease response to protect the health of all Iowans.
Oversee grant, budget, and contracts for CADE.
Support the administrative rule process and educate stakeholders in matters of regulatory compliance.

The successful candidate should have:
A Master's degree in Public Health with an Epidemiology Focus.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in management/supervisory role for epidemiological programs.
At least 6 years of applied infectious disease epidemiology experience.

535 Public Health:
6 months experience, 12 semester hours, or a combination of both related to improving, maintaining, and protecting the general condition of health within society, either on a personal, institutional, organizational, or community basis. Experience may be gained from direct provision of health care or from other ancillary programs and support mechanisms such as government public health departments.
AND
185 Epidemiology:
6 months experience, 12 semester hours, or a combination of both in epidemiology, which involves:
The surveillance for respiratory diseases, vector-born diseases, enteric diseases, antimicrobial-resistant agents, or other infectious or non-infectious diseases
The development of protocols and procedures for data collection and analysis, ongoing analysis of data using a variety of databases and statistical analysis programs
The development and dissemination of written reports, graphs, tables, etc.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
1) Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university and experience equal to six years of full-time management-level work in finance, human resources, engineering, law, social work, regulation, data processing, or program research or evaluation.
2) Ten years of full-time management-level work experience in finance, human resources, engineering, law, social work, regulation, data processing, or program research or evaluation.
3) All of the following (a and b):
a. Six years of full-time management-level work experience in finance, human resources, engineering, law, social work, regulation, data processing, or program research or evaluation; and
b. A combination of a total of four years of education and full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience. Graduation from the Iowa Certified Public Manager Program is also equivalent to one year of full-time experience or education.
4) All of the following (a, b, and c):
a. Four years of full-time management-level work experience in finance, human resources, engineering, law, social work, regulation, data processing, or program research or evaluation; and
b. A combination of a total of four years of education and full-time experience (as described in part a), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience; and
c. A combination of a total of two years of graduate-level education and full-time experience (as described in part a), where twenty-four semester hours of accredited graduate college or university course work in a public-service-related area (e.g., public or business administration, social work, law, education, engineering) equals one year of full-time experience. Graduation from the Iowa Certified Public Manager Program is also equivalent to one year of full-time experience or education.
5) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes eighteen months of full-time work as a Public Service Manager 1 or comparable specific management-level position.
