THE POSITION
The Department of Transportation is excited to announce an opportunity for individuals interested in joining our dedicated bridge inspection team. We are on the lookout for a proactive and enthusiastic candidate who will support the team leader in carrying out vital technical responsibilities associated with the inspection of all bridges and structures within District 2-0. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Transportation Construction Inspector, your primary responsibility will be to compile comprehensive bridge inspection reports that meticulously document all observations and identified deficiencies. These reports will be enriched with critical components, including photographs, sketches, precise measurements, summaries of inspections, and fundamental structural analysis data, as required. We seek a candidate who possesses a robust knowledge of federal regulations, departmental guidelines, and Pub. 238 pertaining to bridge inspections.
In addition to bridge assessments, you will also oversee inspections of boats and cranes, as well as conduct deck test surveys. Your proficiency in bridge management systems (BMS) will enable you to perform inquiries efficiently, implement necessary updates, and accurately input data. It will be your responsibility to ensure that all information within the computer system is both precise and trustworthy. Furthermore, you will be tasked with preparing vital correspondence and collaborating closely with the team leader to enhance the scheduling of bridge inspections effectively.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment
Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
You will work closely with vendors and work hours may change based on vendor availability.
Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Clearfield. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $45,907.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
One year as an Engineering Technician ( Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration ); or
Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 ( Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration ); or
One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
Other Requirements:
This position requires a National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) certification - must be certified within 12 months of hire date.
