The Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) is seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented Medical Administrative Supervisor to provide leadership and operational oversight within our Medical Department. What You'll Do

The Medical Administrative Supervisor provides both administrative leadership and direct supervision within the Medical Department. In this role, you will assist in the development and management of preventative shelter medicine protocols while ensuring that all animal medical records remain accurate and up to date. You will manage and secure the shelter's medical inventory, including ordering supplies as needed and maintaining accurate tracking systems.

This position requires ongoing evaluation of departmental processes, offering thoughtful recommendations for improvement and overseeing implementation of approved changes. You will train and supervise Medical Assistants, Medical Technicians, Surgery Technicians, Surgery Assistants, and other assigned staff, while also recruiting, onboarding, and managing the performance of direct reports.

Collaboration is essential in this role. You will partner with the Director of Veterinary Medical Services to ensure consistent, humane treatment of all animals in our care. You will also oversee the kitten nursery, ensuring appropriate staffing and volunteer coverage to provide around-the-clock care, and work closely with Adoption leadership to support a positive and efficient adoption process.

In addition, you will cultivate positive customer relationships through professional and courteous interactions, actively promote ARL programs and services, support stress and disease reduction efforts through compassionate animal handling, model safe work practices, and ensure adherence to ARL policies and procedures. Other duties may be assigned as needed to support the mission of the organization.

What You Bring

Qualified candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED, with supervisory experience preferred. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, adaptable, and able to function effectively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment. Strong communication problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills are essential, along with the ability to apply critical thinking in daily operations. Basic mathematical proficiency and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite are also required.

This position requires the ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds and to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
