What You Will Do
Reporting directly to the Group Leader within Assurance Verification Operations (PA-2), the First Line Manager (FLM) will manage and provide leadership to the team responsible for assurance systems that support procurement quality and prevention of adversarial subversion of product capabilities. The FLM represents the business unit on technical and administrative issues, both internal and external to the Laboratory, including defining business unit capabilities and requirements that translate into work scope, cost, and scheduling. Planning and directing mission assurance compliance functions -- including the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and systems relating to QA/compliance -- is an expectation of this role. The FLM regularly interacts with executives and LANL program offices. The FLM is expected to negotiate with customers or management regarding matters of significance to the organization. Making final decisions on administrative or operational matters and ensuring achievement of operational objectives is key. The FLM will also be responsible for multiple functions, organizations, locations, products, and/or technical disciplines. Ensuring that budgets, schedules, and performance standards are realistically set and attained is a key expectation. The FLM must be a champion for assurance systems thinking and for continuous process improvement.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Working knowledge of quality assurance standards such as NAP-401.1A, NQA-1, ISO9001, AS9100, DOE 414.1D, and/or quality control standards such as ISO 9001 or GMP.
Previous supervision experience managing, leading and developing the administration of a team; including, forecasting staffing requirements, directing assignments, assuring training and development, monitoring performance, and resolving conflict.
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in implementing organization/company objectives and other statements of policy, practice, and/or procedure.
Demonstrated skills supporting simultaneous projects, executing organizational strategies, participating in strategic and operational planning and program implementation.
Demonstrated ability to work independently in high-intensity environments with coworkers representing a variety of technical backgrounds.
Experience with the management of nonconforming products, corrective actions and product acceptance.
Record of effective written and oral communication skills as evidenced by internal and/or external interactions, seminars, briefings, presentations, and publications.
Experience operating in facilities compliant with government agencies' ordinances and regulations regarding Quality Assurance compliance programs.
Education : Bachelor's degree in engineering or related science and 5 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
This position may be subject to DOE Order 426.2 Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities. This DOE Order establishes entry-level requirements to ensure employees in the position can successfully perform the requirements of the job.
Desired Skills :
Experience with systems engineering or vulnerability analysis.
Experience with designing and/or verifying performance of cyber physical devices.
Experience with Defense Programs Business Process System.
Knowledge and experience of supply chain processes.
Experience with high explosives and/or nuclear and/or high hazard facility operating requirements, safety authorization basis and/or Conduct of Operations planning and execution.
ASQ Certification: CQM/OE- Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence, CQE- Quality Engineer, CRE- Reliability Engineer, others.
A minimum of 2 years related management experience.
In-depth knowledge of and proven ability in implementing, enforcing, and providing guidance for Laboratory objectives and other statements of policy, practice, and/or procedure.
Work Location and Schedules: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management. Work could include periodic weekend coverage to address shift work potential.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
