Job Description
Naval Nuclear Laboratory has internship opportunities for college students to spend the summer of 2027 getting great work experience, in great locations, supporting the world's greatest Navy.
Calling all Instructional Designer students! NNL Summer Technical Internships offer you an immersive professional experience in your field of study. You have the opportunity to work directly with world class engineers, scientists, researchers, and technicians who will provide you with real-world experience and mentorship. We work with state-of-the-art techniques researching and developing new technologies and concepts; designing and testing software, components or integrated systems; developing models and performing data analysis; supporting operations and developing process controls and procedures. At NNL you are a part of a team working on deliverables that have a direct impact on the Navy's nuclear fleet.
In this position, you will work side by side with the Radiological and Environmental Training (R&ET) team to create facilitator and participant guides for initial and continuing training products. In addition, the corresponding presentations will be updated to ensure a cohesive experience for the learner and instructor. These guides will have a lasting impact on R&ET's training effectiveness. You will also have the opportunity to shadow R&ET instructors and apply your knowledge of instructional techniques to provide them with ideas to enhance their training, including both in-person and computer-based training.

The NNL Internship is a 10-12 week program starting in May/June 2027.
An internship position may result in a return internship or full-time employment offer upon successful completion of the program.
Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
Candidates for Instructional Designer internship positions must be:
Pursuing education or related BS, MS or PhD degrees from an accredited college or university
Must have completed at least first full year of college by May 2027
Enrolled/continuing in a degree program throughout this internship
Students must attach most recent unofficial college transcripts and resume (including anticipated graduation date) to the employment application. We will not accept any applications that do not include this information.
Preferred Skills
Cumulative minimum GPA 3.0/4.0
Prior related internship, co-op or work experience (paid or volunteer)
Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Defense (DOD) or Naval Nuclear Program experience
Experience applying adult learning theories
Advanced MS-Office skills

Pay Range
$25.00/hour-$42.50/hour
Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Hourly salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
