Position Description Anoka County Community Corrections is dedicated to building a safer community. We lead with innovative, research-based, and results-driven practices. The department currently has an immediate opening for a Senior Probation Officer. This role includes providing care and correctional treatment to individuals in Anoka County's correctional facilities while ensuring a safe, secure, and well-supervised environment. Key responsibilities include community supervision, case management, and delivering essential court services. This is a full-time, non-exempt, on-site position. Interviews will take place the week of March 2nd, 2026, for those selected to move forward in the hiring process. Pay & Benefits Salary: $85,363.20 to $102,440.00 ($41.04 to $49.25 per hour). Work Location This position will be at one of three Juvenile Corrections facilities, located at 7555 4th Ave, Lino Lakes, MN 55014. Institutional staff work rotating schedules that may change based on operational needs and supervisory discretion. Most roles are assigned evening shifts (3:00 PM-11:00 PM) through the union shift-bid process. Senior Probation Officers at all three facilities work six consecutive days, including weekends and holidays, followed by three days off. Job Duties and Responsibilities These examples are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Senior Probation Officer. Develop treatment or case plans, use motivational interviewing to promote positive behavior change, assess residents' readiness for change, and engage residents in the change process. Assist with relapse prevention, facilitate groups, coordinate programs, and develop residents' post-custody release plans. Collaborate with providers including school personnel, treatment providers, social services, law enforcement agencies, and families regarding residents' educational needs, treatment plans and progress, and behavioral progress. Apply knowledge of the criminal justice system and processes, chemical health policies and laws, state and federal laws related to licensing standards, de-escalation strategies, and evidence based correctional practices. Supervise residents in all facets of juvenile institutional programming, communicating information to other personnel to enforce rules, regulations, policies, and ensure the safety and security of residents and staff. Maintain accurate documentation of case activity, including contacts with clients, victims, concerned parties and treatment agencies. Utilize department and offender data systems and computer hardware. Conduct security checks of building and grounds and search resident, living quarters and work areas for contraband. Respond to emergency situations and call for assistance in the worksite and intervene with appropriate level of force. Comply with the disciplinary practices of the institution in reporting rule violations and applying sanctions. Provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group. Qualifications and Requirements: Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed Requires a bachelor's degree. At least four years (2,080 annual hours) of job-related experience. In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. Must be 21 years of age or older by date of hire. Successfully pass driver's license background check. Must have valid driver's license and vehicle available for business use. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed Degree in Corrections, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology or related field. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Training in the following areas: Motivational Interviewing, Carey Guides, Core Correctional Practices, Decision Points, etc. Knowledge of evidence-based correctional practices. Physical Demands and Work Conditions Standard office environment, correctional and detention institutions, field offices, courtrooms, offender'/clients' homes, hospitals and schools, and various community settings depending on assignment. Work activities may involve contact with, and the supervision of juveniles or adults charged with major or minor criminal offenses, and/or individuals who may be hostile, dangerous, threatening, armed, and aggressive and/or under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Consequently, some assignments may encounter stressful and physically threatening situations. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades and brightness. Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds. Ability to detect, discern, and tolerate a wide range of scents required for safety and performance of essential duties. Cognitive abilities required include problem solving, prioritization of tasks, short- and long-term memory, interpreting and understanding written documents, and general mathematical skills. Assignments require several hours of varied physical activity in addition to viewing a computer screen, sitting at a desk, or walking/standing. Physical activity may include handling/carrying equipment, reaching, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Periodic high levels of exertion in the form of self-defense, pursuit, or restraint of an individual are possible for some assignments. Lifting over 100 lbs. in emergency situations.
