As an Acute Multi-Specialty Pharmacy Technician, you will take ownership of the pharmacy spaces and tasks. You will be collaborating and communicating with pharmacists, physicians and nursing to fulfill patient care needs. You will also manage the role of contact person for inventory procurement and eventually 340b site contact. The ideal candidate for this role has 2 years acute Hospital experience, as well as sterile non-hazardous/hazardous compounding experience. This role has an 8 on/6 off work schedule. Shifts are 10 hours (7:00-5:30) with one day that overlaps. You could work an evening shift (1230-2300) or the morning IV room (0630-1700). There is also a rotation of covering 3rd shift and night shift for callouts or PTO coverage.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position functions in a support capacity for a variety of higher-level pharmacy technician duties that may, at other facilities, require multiple pharmacy technicians in specialty or Senior Acute Pharmacy Technician roles. Duties will include (where applicable) the maintenance of automated technology systems, 340b compliance, controlled substance monitoring, medication history retrieval, medication distribution and record keeping, ordering and procurement of medications, and charging/auditing medications, in addition to all other Acute Pharmacy Technician duties as required. Serves as a representative of the pharmacy department, interfacing with all other members of the healthcare team. Interacts and trains pharmacy staff, physicians, and nursing staff when necessary.
CORE FUNCTIONS
Provides support in the implementation, installation, maintenance and updating of technology systems related to pharmacy monitoring, compounding, repackaging, and distribution. Serves as a resource in interpreting reports, actively managing inventory, training staff, and ensuring appropriate use of technology related to medication compounding, repackaging, and distribution.
Performs, summarizes, and reports controlled substance and 340b compliance audits (where applicable). Notifies the Pharmacist in Charge or designee of concerns regarding compliance and diversion in a timely manner. Completes audits before deadlines.
Coordinates with the pharmacist or designee, completes patient medication histories and records them in the electronic health record in accordance with policy.
Selects and/or prepares medications, under direct supervision, as indicated on patient medication orders. Places medications in patient boxes or in designated area for pharmacist to check, sends/delivers medications to nursing units as required. May investigate missing medication requests. Charges/credits patients for medications and intravenous solutions as appropriate. Restocks unused and credited returned medications. May also prepare the daily bank deposit and financial reports, maintain databases and troubleshoot automated technology malfunctions.
Under the supervision of a pharmacist, compounds and prepares doses of non-sterile and sterile medications in accordance with policy and best practices.
Communicates appropriately and effectively with internal and external customers. Answers phones and fields questions from facility staff. Triages and prioritizes questions to the pharmacist appropriately.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires Pharmacy Technician licensure and active Pharmacy Technician certification OR Pharmacy Intern licensure in the state of practice.
Incumbents in Arizona are also required to provide the AZ Board of Pharmacy Wallet Card at time of hire.
Minimum of four years pharmacy technician experience. Must have the knowledge of brand/generic names of drugs, including OTC's and their strengths/uses, as well as knowledge of herbal/dietary supplements and their strengths/uses. Ability to complete moderate to difficult mathematical calculations using a hand-held calculator is required. Strong customer service focus, exceptional communication skills, strong attention to detail, prioritization capabilities, superior problem-solving skills, and ability to multi-task. Must have knowledge of computer software, particularly medication management information system software, Microsoft applications and Automated dispensing systems. Must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills for interfacing with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, and other contacts.
