Summary This position functions as a Locksmith for the Facilities Management Service line within the Carpenter Shop in the Maintenance and Operations Section of the Engineering Service at VA Kansas City Health Care System (VAKCHCS), in Kansas City, MO. Responsibilities Performs the full range of work in the installation, repair, maintenance and modification of a wide variety of commercial locking devices Examines all locks worked on for evidence of attempted neutralization Installs new parts as needed and fabricates repair items such as locking bolts and special screws Performs minor carpenter work such as repairing doors, jams, walls, platforms, etc., in addition to locking requirements Designs, sets up and maintains the master key system Attends seminars Performs other related duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday - Friday - 6:00AM - 2:30PM Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized Requirements Conditions of Employment You must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959 Pre-employment physical required Subject to background/security investigation Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process. Qualifications PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Work requires frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and working in awkward positions. Lifts up to 50 pounds without assistance and heavier objects with assistance. Works in a fully secured lock shop containing all required tools, equipment and materials, and performs 60% of preliminary work therein. The remainder of the time spent working is in the field, both indoors and outdoors. Exposed to possibility of cuts, abrasions, scrapes and bruises. You must wear shields for protection when operating key cutting machine and electric grinder. Observes all safety precautions.
