Summary Education & Learning Resources Service is seeking to fill a full-time Deputy Associate Chief of Staff/Deputy Designated Education Officer (DDEO) position for VA North Texas Health Care System. The DDEO works directly under the DEO who is the single designated VA employee with oversight responsibility for all health professions training at this VA medical facility. The DDEO assists the DEO with these responsibilities and may serve as the DEO during absences. Responsibilities The DDEO is responsible for assisting with tasks related to establishing, maintaining, and evaluating the quality of HPT programs and care delivered by HPTs at the VA medical facility. DDEO provides assistance with oversight of the HPE service and education support for a full spectrum of paid and without compensation (WOC) HPTs and others associated with a complex healthcare system. DDEO provides a wide range of program management and administrative duties supporting the HPE programs. HPT academic levels may include undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate students, externs, interns, residents, fellows, and VA advanced fellows; and pre- and post-doctoral fellows. Supported educational programs may include medical and dental, associated health, nursing, advanced fellows and limited non-clinical programs. The DDEO is a supervisory physician with leadership experience involving clinical, educational, and administrative responsibilities in medical care and education. Experience and familiarity with accreditation standards, financing, policy, and evaluation are preferred. The DDEO must possess skills in 1) administering and managing training programs, 2) effectively communicating with diverse audiences in both written and oral form, and 3) displaying characteristics such as self-direction, project organization, and interpersonal effectiveness. Qualifications To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Language: Proficiency in spoken and written English. Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), OR (2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. License: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, or Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant.
