Summary This position is location within the Engineering Service as an Electronics Mechanic Leader within the Electric Shop, Maintenance and Repair Section. Required to perform all @types of technical electronic and commercial, industrial electrical maintenance, installations, modifications, repair, and preventive maintenance duties at the main Biloxi campus of the VA Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System. Responsibilities Plans the work and establishes deadlines, priorities and schedules as necessary to accomplish the mission of performing recurring and non-recurring maintenance and repair, and preventive maintenance on all electrical and electronic equipment. Plans and estimates labor and material costs on remodeling or new construction. Reschedules or establishes new priorities to avoid delays due to procurement of materials or equipment and redirect individual workers to accomplish mission. Monitors equipment tests on new projects to ensure proper installation and to ensure equipment functions within the established parameters. Advises Maintenance & Repair Foreman of capabilities of assigned work force, requirements for materials, equipment, work space, and any other assistance that may be required. Responsible for planning, scheduling, and supervising maintenance and repair, construction, renovation of existing structures which has a major impact on patient services and preventive maintenance on electrical and electronic equipment, buildings and utility systems which includes but is not limited to electrical, fire alarms, nurse call systems, elevators, generators, automatic doors, laundry, and some medical equipment. Makes long and short range plans for operation and repair of all equipment and work areas assigned such as kitchen, laundry, engineering shops, medical and grounds equipment, vehicles, lift stations, pumps, motors, compressors, and heavy equipment, units and systems such as building fire alarm systems and nurse calls, which are the responsibility of the Electric Shop. Ensures work supplies, tools, plans, equipment and any other materials necessary for the satisfactory completion of assignments are present, ordering such supplies as necessary. Provides guidance and instructions, answers questions, and checks work progress during and upon completion. Furnishes guidance on sequence of operation and technical guidance on repairs and interprets technical orders and specifications for subordinates. Advises supervisor of problems in an effort to correct bottlenecks due to material shortages, lack of equipment, or personnel shortages. Possesses knowledge and practical skills in the assembly, disassembly, repair and/or maintenance and operation of all equipment. Provides technical guidance and monitoring through the use of blueprints, sketches, diagrams, pamphlets, technical orders, bulletins, and other oral and written directives. Responsible for inventory and maintaining of all non-expendable equipment and tools listed on the Equipment Inventory Listing (EIL) for the electric shop. Works from ladders, scaffolding, platforms and mechanical lifts. Works both inside and outside under extreme temperatures, in cramped spaces, on roofs, under buildings and in attics, drilling through masonry walls and concrete floors. Works in manholes exposed to dangerous gases; the possibility of broken bones, electrical shock, burns and bruises. Responsible for proactive behaviors in presenting, identifying, and reporting actual and potentially unsafe patient care situations. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Required to push, walk, crawl, bend, lift, and climb to extreme heights for sustained periods of time. This position entails occupational hazards such as possible eye damage, hearing loss, and back injury. Most work is performed in extremely hot and humid conditions. May be exposed to adverse working conditions, which include dust, a variety of chemicals, extreme heights, confined spaces, exposure to outdoor elements, and adverse weather conditions. There may be potentials for cuts, bruises, and chemical burns, when necessary to perform the position. Will be responsible for maintaining a proper and professional attitude with both employees and patients of both genders at this facility. Will be required to use all safety equipment provided to ensure a safe working environment is always maintained on the facility. Will be aware of all job specifically health hazards and will wear the appropriate/required personal protective equipment (PPE).
