Interventional Pulmonology

Catholic Health is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our growing Interventional Pulmonology team. The ideal candidate will work in collaboration with board-certified interventional pulmonologists and a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care to patients with complex pulmonary conditions.

Dr. Sharad Chandrika, MD is a board-certified physician specializing in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, with expertise in Pulmonology and Interventional Pulmonology. She practices at the Cancer Institute at Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, NY.

Dr. Chandrika completed medical school at Coimbatore Medical College and extensive postgraduate training, including fellowships in Pulmonary Disease, Critical Care Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, and Interventional Pulmonology at Yale and Johns Hopkins.

She provides comprehensive care for complex lung conditions such as COPD, interstitial lung disease, and advanced lung cancer, performing advanced procedures including bronchoscopy and airway stenting. She is a pioneer in innovative cancer therapies, including INUMI immunotherapy, and serves as Director of Interventional Pulmonary Medicine at Catholic Health, leading clinical initiatives, patient education, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Dr. Chandrika is committed to compassionate, patient-centered care, emphasizing early detection, prevention, and advanced treatment options for improved outcomes.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with interventional pulmonologists to assess, diagnose, and manage patients with thoracic and pulmonary diseases.

Assist in coordination and management of advanced pulmonary procedures, including:

Bronchoscopy (diagnostic and therapeutic)

Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS)

Navigational bronchoscopy

Thoracentesis and pleural procedures

Airway stenting and tumor ablation

Conduct pre-procedure evaluations and post-procedure follow-up.

Manage inpatient consults and assist with rounding on interventional pulmonology patients.

Educate patients and families on diagnosis, procedures, treatment plans, and follow-up care.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to clinical research, if applicable.

Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).

Help manage Outpatient Clinic by doing the following: Phone triage, symptom management; follow up radiology results, prescription and referral/supply management.

Qualifications

Licensed as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the State of New York.

Certification by ANCC/AANP (NP) or NCCPA (PA).

BLS and ACLS certification required.

DEA required

At least 1-2 years of experience in pulmonary, critical care, thoracic surgery, or interventional pulmonology preferred (but new grads with strong clinical rotations and interest will be considered).

Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational abilities.

Salary Range

USD $69.54 - USD $74.67 /Hr.
