Job Summary
The Project Procurement Consultant plays a critical role in driving the efficient and timely procurement of goods and services across assigned projects within the capital project portfolio. This position partners closely with Project Procurement Specialists, cross-functional business stakeholders, and Sourcing teams to ensure that project purchasing requisitions are accurately developed, strategically aligned, and submitted in accordance with organizational standards.
The Consultant proactively identifies and implements best practices, resolves procurement-related issues, and leads cross-functional efforts to optimize sourcing, contracting, and operational processes. This role may also provide direction to junior team members and contributes to the overall maturity and performance of the project procurement function.

What You'll Do:
Support the framework, metrics, and goals for continuous improvement of Sourcing and Business Partners.
Employ and help identify leading practices to achieve project excellence.
Participate in cross-functional continuous improvement initiatives.
Proactively identify, communicate, and resolve issues within the requisitioning process by collaborating with Business Partners and Supply Chain stakeholders to ensure seamless workflow and timely issue escalation.
Assist in managing team workload, prioritization, and resource alignment to ensure project deliverables are met.
Serve as the primary liaison with project teams for defining and developing purchase requisition requirements.
Support the training, development, and mentoring of Project Procurement Analysts, fostering skill growth, process understanding, and professional development.
Provide guidance to project teams to ensure adherence to AEP standards, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Promote consistent application of procurement and sourcing governance.
Develop requisitions for materials and services and support engineering, operations, and corporate services teams in selecting appropriate suppliers.
Maintain awareness of market trends, supplier capabilities, and emerging technologies.
Gather and analyze forecasting data to determine total demand for project materials and services.
Ensure timely delivery of goods and services at the lowest total cost of ownership while supporting project schedules and budget objectives.
Ensure timely communication and escalation of material and service demand issues to support Supply Chain service-level commitments and project execution needs.
Ensure that materials supply and contracting plans incorporate appropriate lead times, buying channel requirements, and delivery details.
Support efficient tracking of project requirements, logistics coordination, and expediting activities.
Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and project teams to ensure alignment on procurement strategies, timelines, and expectations.
Facilitate effective communication across all levels of the organization.
Identify procurement-related risks, including supply constraints, cost fluctuations, and schedule impacts, and collaborate with stakeholders to develop mitigation strategies.
What We're Looking For:
Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university required, preferably in Engineering, Business, Accounting, Finance, Supply Chain, Digital, or other related field; (Or) (4) years of relevant work experience.
Experience: Three (3) or more years of directly relevant work in project controls, procurement, or related experience required. Experience within the utility, manufacturing, or construction industry preferred.
Additional Expectations:
Understanding of procurement/strategic sourcing, project controls, accounts payable, work management and financial systems applications is preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
Ability to measure, analyze, and interpret complex business issues.
Demonstrated understanding of procurement processes, as well as a basic understanding of contract terms and conditions preferred.
Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to navigate complex situations and exercise sound judgment.
Highly self-motivated with strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Effective team player with the ability to work with all levels of internal and external stakeholders.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and shifting priorities.
Familiarity with ERP systems, procurement platforms, and digital workflow tools.
What You'll Get:
Expected Salary Range: $88,000.00-$99,000.00 (USD)
