The Health Regulation Division of the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) protects the health and safety of Minnesotans by monitoring compliance with many of the laws and rules designed to protect them. A State Triage Specialist position exists to gather, analyze, and assess information related to complaints and incidents involving maltreatment, compliance, and violations in state and federal licensed health care facilities; mortuary and body art establishments; morticians; body artists; and all other licensees regulated by the Health Regulation Division (HRD).
State Triage conducts its work under the Minnesota Vulnerable Adults Act which includes statutory timelines for completion of this work.
Primary Duties include:
Gathering, analyzing, and assessing information related to complaints and incidents involving maltreatment, compliance issues, and violations in licensed health care facilities, mortuary and body art establishments, morticians, body artists, and other licensees regulated by the division.
Ensuring timely investigation and response to reports of violations or maltreatment, adhering to statutory timelines established under the Minnesota Vulnerable Adults Act.
Monitoring and evaluating compliance with state and federal laws and rules designed to protect the health and safety of Minnesotans.
Documenting and maintaining accurate records of investigations, findings, and actions taken.
Collaborating with other division staff and external agencies to facilitate investigations and enforce regulations.

This position may be based in the St. Paul office location or a MN Department of Health district office including St. Cloud, Duluth, Rochester, Marshall, Bemidji, Fergus Falls, Mankato.
Minimum Qualifications

Two (2) years of experience working with health care regulations or statutes for licensed or regulated healthcare providers.
Applicants who meet the above qualifications will be further assessed during an interview on the following:
Experience navigating multiple databases.
Knowledge of healthcare delivery systems including administrative processes.
Communications skills to effectively explain triage decision-making processes to members of the public, who may be distraught or demanding.
Ability to use plain language and document concise, accurate and complete information for use by agency partners, internal staff and the public.
Human relations skills sufficient to develop and maintain effective working relationships with external partners and within MDH.
A related master's degree may substitute for eighteen (18) months of experience; bachelor's degree may substitute for twelve (12) months of experience; and associate's degree may substitute for six (6) months of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge and experience working with Assisted Living and/or Home Care statutes and regulations.
Knowledge of the relationship between the various levels of state licensure and federal certification programs.
Knowledge of administrative, civil and criminal law affecting licensing and investigative functions.
Experience working in health care or social services.
