Bruce McCandless Veterans Community Living Center
The Bruce McCandless Veterans Community Living Center (VCLC) at Florence offers holistic skilled nursing care for veterans, surviving spouses, and Gold Star parents, who need short-term rehabilitation, respite, or long-term care. The facility focuses on providing individualized, respectful care in a safe and comfortable environment. The VCLCs identifies and addresses residents' diverse needs from admissions, transfers, and discharges, including social, emotional, psychological, and medical assistance. It advocates for residents, removes barriers, coordinates services, and addresses concerns. The unit also facilitates interactions between residents, families, staff, and external resources and ensures proper documentation for reimbursements.

We are seeking an exceptional individual interested interested in joining our nursing team!
The Assistant Activity Director and Volunteer Services Coordinator (Therapy Assistant II) will coordinate the volunteer services for the facility and to provide therapeutic activities for the residents of the home. This position will also serve as lead worker for the department and assist the Activity Director with supervisory responsibilities. Ensures that services meet all national, state and local regulatory standards to provide residents with safe, effective and individualized recreational activites; to enhance the quality of life and utilize the staff and resources of the agency and community effectively.
Additionally, as a Assistant Activity Director and Volunteer Services Coordinator, you can expect to:
Responsible for recruiting group and individual volunteers through community networking, advertisements and interpersonal contact. Responsible for obtaining and maintaining accurate volunteer records including application, background clearance, training, donations and volunteer hours. Repsonsible for developing and updating the training content, scheduling and performing training for new volunteers and annually therafter. Responsible for submitting monthly volunteer reports to the Division including accomplishments, hours, recognition events and other highlights. Responsible for coordinating volunteer assistance, events with individuals and groups. Responsible for communication with other departments to ensure coordination of services such as supplies, food and resident participation are optimal. Responsible for sending weekly or monthly letters of thanks to volunteers. Coordinates and serves as the event planner for the annual volunteer banquet including invitations, decorations, venue, food, certificates and tracking of volunteer services/hours for the event. Develops and/or modifies volunteer job descriptions and works with volunteers to appropriately match their interests with volunteer positions in our home. Assists the Activity Director in reviewing, revising or developing policies and procedures related to volunteers. Serves as communication liaison between the facility and volunteers for all programs, events, training requirements, and policies.
Develop, plan and lead stimulating activities to residents as determined through resident preference, ability, and interest. Responsible for carrying out individual activity treatment programs, MDS and care plans, coordination of resident council and advisory council, special events, holidays and decorating the facility. Responsible for preparing in advance of the activity or event, setting up necessary supplies, communicating to residents the activity if about to begin, assisting residents to/from the activity, provides encouragement to residents throughout the activity, maintains positive atmosphere to enhance participation. Provides activities of daily living (ADL) care during activities or as needed including but not limited to transferring residents, assistance with feeding, personal care, toileting, grooming, changing clothing, answering call-lights, and other duties as assigned. Provide and maintain activity adaptive equipment. Conduct 1:1 programming as determined through assessment. Includes research, networking with other therapies, agencies, and suppliers. Assist with purchase or rental equipment, supplies and materials needed for activities under the direction of the Activity Director. Responsible for driving various facility vehicles for the purpose of taking residents to scheduled outings such as luncheons, movies, fishing, tours, Cripple Creek, etc. Provides back-up transportation for medical purposes including hospital transfers or appointments
Responsible for performing admission, quarterly, change of condition and annual assessments to identify resident preferences for daily activities, outings, spiritual needs, physical and emotional needs, musical, outdoor, gardening, family and social, reading and any other areas of interest. Incorporates resident preferences, goals and problems into the MDS and care plan. Maintains daily documentation for the activity department through resident records, progress notes, one-to-one sheets, participation records and behavior charting. Responsible for maintaining minutes of Resident Council meetings monthly and community meetings. Ensures that all activity department, facility and division policies are maintained. Utilizes data through Abaqis or similar system to review resident satisfaction and assist with plans of correction as necessary. Assist with providing training and guidance to activity staff regarding policies, forms, changes in practice and activity regulations
In the absence of the Activity Director or as delegated by the Activity Director, manages the schedule, leave requests and time adjustments for activity staff, coordinates daily assignments (as a back-up to the Activity Director). Under the supervision of the Activity Director, manages department budget including spend down sheets and invoices, and provides feedback utilizing performance documents to the Activity Director for activity staff. Under the supervision of the Activity Director provides training to new staff and annually during annual review. Under the supervision of the Activity Director, provides counseling regarding employee performance including verbal and written communication.
Perform other duties as assigned by the charge nurse or other supervisor as assigned

Special Qualifications: Requires Colorado C.N.A. License for direct care, two years long term care experience, and a valid State of Colorado driver's license.

Two (2) years of relevant experience in a long-term care setting supporting recreational activities

Education and Experience:
A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position equal to two (2) years.

Shift Work: Must be able to work shifts to meet activity needs 7 days/week days and evenings (ie: 8am-4:30pm; 10am-6:30pm; 12:30pm-9:00pm)
On-call Status: On call as needed
Travel: To transport residents driving a State Vehicle
